Eco-friendly Plants
The seeds germinated quickly and are growing well in the repurposed howlers I have them in. Some of them got a bit leggy, but that's my fault (seedlings need good light and I didn't think to have a grow light on them right away). As a positive that isn't really discussed anywhere in the comments, I think these are fairly bug proof (*knock on wood*). I had ants get in through a window near these, and instead of burrowing into the soil, they just drowned in the water. That's a massive bonus! I'm curious if they're fungal gnat proof . . . Hopefully I won't have to find out!Compared to other grow-a-plant-in-a-jar options out there, I really like this one. I've already recommended it to several people and plan to buy it again. I think the negative reviews are based on a) not reading that this doesn't come with 3 bottles and b) people who haven't started seedlings before. If you're like me, you can easily repurpose howlers or litre beer bottles, so the bottle thing isn't really an issue (I'm guessing the people who struggle with that don't drink beer or wine?).

Perfect for me! Growing, Gorgeous and Blooming
Started Thai, Purple and Lime Basil's on the window sill on 4.17.2020 and today is 5.29.2020, when I took the most current pictures. Each day I make sure the vases are always filled to the top with water (not obsessively, but at least 3-4 times a day) and alternate positions of the plants as the sunlight moves in the west exposure (live in the Phoenix, AZ area). That is it and so far so great!

Disappointed!
This is a cool idea! Kit and contents are attractive and instructions easy to follow. Some seeds sprouted in a few days. When I carefully removed the germination covers, the adhesive pulled the seedlings with them! Needless to say, I’m very disappointed! I sent pics of the bottles to friends and family with a promise to report on the progress and had planned to buy all the other versions. I decided to try again with the remaining seeds. I put a couple of drops of water on the top of the planting medium to remoisten it and planted more seeds but used plastic wrap to cover the tops. I won’t be buying the other kits and recommending them to friends until I see if my modification works.

Can only be used with dark colored bottles
I got this product because I had some really beautiful empty wine bottles that I didn't want to throw out. Unfortunately after I got the product it said you can only use dark colored bottles which was not in the peoduct description and I don't have any of. The product is a little overpriced for what you get although it is exactly as described. I haven't had a chance to plant them yet to see if they even work.

bottles
I used old washed beer bottles for this last time. These work well due to the fact they are bigger and can hold more water. I look forward to bigger plants. They send seeds when you buy the kit which I have used. This time I tried one that didn't come with it. So far it is dong the best and in the new bottles. Time will tell but I'm happy now

A Great Easy Kit!
These herb bottle kits are a great way to start growing your own herbs! They are very easy to set up and very low maintenance, you only need to refill the bottle with water every once in a while. It's also very easy to propagate cuttings with these kits, just insert the cutting into the plug instead of using seeds! They also make a great gift, especially when paired with a bottle of wine!

Want free re-try
Would like free re-try. One teaser flower on the brink but never got past looking like a bean sprout. Other seeds never even sprouted. Molded.

Not as good as the original kit
I loved the original Urban Leaf kit. I had fresh basil all winter long. When I found I could save a few dollars and simply replace the innards, I thought "great!"But it wasn't.The replacements come in two pieces and you have to be very careful which you put on top and which on the bottom, otherwise you will have trouble sprouting your seeds (I think this was the problem with one of my bottles.) You also have to be very careful to make sure the two pieces are smashed together or the roots won't grow into the second half of the replacement sponge (and if the water level goes below the first, the roots will have trouble drawing water (I think this was the problem with another of my bottles, as I got a wonderful plant that then withered and died when I forgot to top off the water.)On the whole, I had more luck with the original Urban Leaf kit than with the replacements (using the same seed, which I had leftover from the original planting.)
