Merckens Coating Melting Wafers Chocolate Dark 5 pounds (3 Pack)

We use these for currency in our neighborhood (to get away from reliance on the banking system). The chocolates are about the size of a quarter coin, so we value each for 25 cents in trade. I recently used the better part of a bag to purchase some fireworks. I also use them for tips at restaurants, coffee shops, and fast food joints. I'm still trying to convince the bank to take them, but so far no bites there.Pros: accepted at several households and the lawnmower repair shop in our communityCons: will melt in your pocket on hot daysI highly recommend these due to their compact size and round shape.

I just opened my 5 pound bag of Merckens Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers. After tasting a few wafers it is obvious that this product is not dark and not chocolate. The product description on Amazon states "Ingredients available upon request. Buyer beware! The main ingredients are sugar and vegetable oil. The wafers don't taste very much like chocolate. I would recommend customers pay extra and purchase real chocolate from Lindt.

Melted in smaller batches (about 1/3 - 1/2 bag at a time), it melted smoothly and perfectly (10-12 seconds at a time stirring in between). This was my first time doing anything like this so was unsure in the beginning but got the hang of it quickly. This is extremely easy to use - easy to melt and hardens slowly so there is time to work with it, I was pouring into molds. Then I put the finished product in the freezer for just a few minutes and it hardened quickly with a nice shine and popped easily out of the molds. Last but not least the chocolate covered Oreos are to die for!

Only OK. Didn't need to be tempered, but I sacrificed taste for this option. They do not have a rich dark chocolate taste, but manage to still be creamy and mold well. Kind of a sad tradeoff to get chocolates that don't "bloom" terribly, since tempering at high altitude is touchy.

*Inherited* a recipe from my husbands grandmother for rocky road candy, which starts with chocolate wafers. As it's one of the spouses favorite candies, I decided to purchase these wafers in bulk, which makes the candy a TON cheaper, and easier to make. I also purchased white chocolate melting wafers for a different flavor, from the same company.They work very well and arrived in perfect condition. No issues.

have been using Merckens for many years to make chocolate covered pretzels, fruit and give as hostess gifts as well as for ourselves. great and easy to melt in the microwave. tastes yummy

THESE TASTE TERRIBLE. I ORDERED BITTERSWEET AND GOT MILK CHOCOLATE.

These are amazing. I used them to dip homemade turtle candies. Perfection.
