Size:1 Inch  |  Color:Sealed Rusted Borderland Rustic Hardware makes highly-crafted, hand forged iron products for those who find the real value in the unique character found in each and every piece we make the old fashioned way. These hand forged iron clavos will accent the beauty and authenticity of your project or home decor. Our hardware is carefully built to ensure that it will function, as designed, for many years to come. The artisans whom make our products do not use any prefabricated components, nor do they rely on additional vendors to complete their projects. They are skilled masters of the art of age-old forging methods. This enables them to keep all phases of fabrication in-house from start to finish. The products they produce are made one-at-time with a commitment to preserving old world traditions of hand crafted iron works which is evident at the very first glance. To install it is recommended to pre-drill pilot holes into the wood or metal and use a rubber mallet to lightly tap the clavos in. This will help prevent the finish and clavos from being damaged. The painted flat black finish is a baked on Acrylic Melamine paint which helps to prevent rust so the clavos can be used outside. The rusted finish clavos do have a slight powder residue that does slightly rub off when touched. They will continue to rust and darken in color over time and it is recommend that you use these clavos indoors or areas where they will not be handled often. The unfinished clavos will naturally oxidize if exposed to humidity and is recommended for interior use. The sealed rusted and unfinished clavos can be used outside as they have been coated with a sealer that helps to prevent rust but might need to be recoated with a sealer over time depending on the elements that they are exposed to.

Great product, great customer service!
These are great quality, thicker nail than other companies market. I used the black (outdoor use) to finish off my board and batten cedar shutters. They look amazing and were super easy to work with when a pilot hole is drilled, as suggested. You must protect the nail head (I used a thick folded cloth instead of rubber mallet) and they hammer in nicely. Not one broke while installing. Here’s the best part: some nails came bent, (angled from the head, not the actual straight nail portion) and I wrote to the company regarding this. They explained that as handmade products this will happen but that they are not defective. They can be used and once the nail is started into the drilled hole the head can be tapped flat again. Then they sent me replacements anyway! I attached a photo. Lots of complements on the shutters and I decided to do all the windows, not just two sides as planned. Great product, great customer service!

Quality clavos...well made!
Well made and quality clavos. Much better than I was expecting. The paint is well adhered to the metal subsurface; I tried to use stripper to get the paint off a few but it would not budge even after leaving it in stripper overnight. I also tried to chip it off with a hammer...still no dice. So, rest assured, the paint will be difficult to knock off or wear off over time.I had no problem nailing these into a large ancient oak slab I am using for my kitchen island.

Nail portion too long
Good quality decorative nail BUT, and it's a big "but"... The nail portion is way too long. Extremely frustrating. So on a barn door, typically 1x6 or 1x8 wood is used. That means the main part of your door is only 3/4" thick. This nail is just a hair under 7/8 of an inch so it will easily pop out the other side of the door if you place it anywhere other than the frame. This barn door build I'm doing requires almost all these clavos being off the frame and onto the single 1x8 boards. So that means I'm going to have to grind down over 100 of these. A big time sink. This problem isn't isolated to this seller. I have other clavos that have the same issue. A plea to the manufacturers of these very cool nails... This is a DECORATIVE nail! It's not supporting ANYTHING! It doesn't need to be over 3/4 of an inch long. Change your manufacturing process to shorten the nail section to 1/2 inch. That's all we need.

Love these
These we're perfect for my project. Great quality and easy install. I had only one that gave me trouble but I believe it was due to my error which was too perfect of placement on each side of the door lpl

Decorative Nails
We bought these to put on shutters. They look great. We also added them to a headboard we made. They are well-made. I would purchase them again, and I definitely recommend to anyone looking to add nice detail to a project.

Awesome!
Love the added details to our custom gate! Be sure to use a rubber mallet to hammer in and take your time so as not to bend the nail or have it go in crooked. Would absolutely buy again.

great old rustic look
These are handmade and certainly look like it. I got the finished ones with a clear coat and they are shinier than I thought they would be. I am in the process of making a colonial pine table look like a medieval table and these should do the trick. Make sure to pre-drill some kind of hole before using.
