Top book I recommend for astrology beginners
The Inner Sky by Steven Forrest is one of the top five books I recommend to all my beginning astrology students. As a practicing evolutionary astrologer and always looking for great books to recommend to my students this one is on top of the list. It is simple, well-written and Steven uses both modern and traditional rulerships for the planets and I think that is imperative for any beginner student who takes a path into other disciplines such as horary and traditional astrology later. The bolding and layout are easy to read and helps in recall of the material. In evolutionary and psychological astrology it is nice to have the shadow view of each sign as he's written within each zodiacal sign. All the foundations of evolutionary astrology are packed into this book with a glossary and index at the end for finding what you need within the book. Astrology is a language of symbols and this book begins the journey with descriptive and meaningful context and examples to start learning. Overall this book is excellent and I highly recommend it.

Printed pages of the birth charts is too light
I am happy with the content of the book, the rating is for the content. However, I wanted to let others know that there may be a problem in the printing of this version. There was a printing problem in this publishment of the book I received - all the birth charts are printed too light, and the images are missing key elements that are mentioned in the text. The Sample birth chart of the Englishman, and ALL charts in he appendix, are so light that the house separation lines and degree numbers are missing and not detectable.I contacted Amazon and they are shipping a new book, but it's the same printed publishment, so the charts may also be too light. I will receive the book in two days, and find out. I will update this review at that time.UPDATE:Received the book yesterday and the print is the same for all the birth charts. There are some websites that produce birth charts for free, and all the data to make each one is available in the text. So I have made my own charts - but it would be more convenient if the birth charts in the book were printed dark enough to be useful.I didn't see another choice for publishers of this text on Amazon, so I don't know what I can do about it at this time.

great intro into astrology.
I am just learning astrology. I am beginning to realize that there so many different schools of thought regarding astrology. It is confusing. as each teacher says different things. stresses different things. what stood out for them. I love the more psychological approach Stephen takes, ie the inner sky versus the outer one. and I enjoy his teaching style. Very happy with this book and seriously considering taking some of his online training.

Solid Information Sprinkled With Wit
It is obvious right away that Steven is a good astrologer, and not some "woo-woo" soothsayer. He writes plainly, no bull, and with a sense of humor. This book is a pleasure to read. My wife said she wished it had been the first astrology book we had ever read. But maybe one needs to read some of the others to really appreciate Steven's simplicity. . . . to enjoy how the information just sinks in.

good starter book
I loved this book while I was reading, but after finished I was just not satisfied. Forrest is a big name in the astrology world and this is a very good basic book to give you a "feel" of each of the planets. He does a good job of giving detailed examples that will leave you "feeling" a planet as well as "knowing" what the traditional definition means. But, overall, it was just too basic for me. For an absolute newbie, this would be a great starter book.

The Greatest Astrology Book I’ve Ever Come Across
The depth, the passion, the creativity and love with which Steven Forrest writes comes across the way I’ve experienced him in his webinars and YouTube videos. I love listening to Steven. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like his books because sometimes great speakers can have a bit of difficulty getting themselves across in the written word. Not Steven Forrest. I’m just so blown away by this book which encompasses so much more than I’ve come across in astrology. I purchased the Kindle version first but I just ordered a hard copy from his website as I want this book in my physical library. The presentation of the basics of astrology, along with the in-depth explanations of the signs, etc. are way deep. For example, Steven writes about a each sign’s symbol (what that sign is about - not the glyph), their endpoint, their strategy (how they get to that endpoint), their resources (aspects of the sign’s personality that help them along their way in life to reach their endpoint), and their shadow (the “stuff” that hinders their progress if they misuse or ignore their resources). While this may all seem “technical”, Steven is a Master Painter with words. His books are really his beautifully painted canvas.Highly, deeply recommend.

One of the Best Astrology books out there
I'm a Life Mission Astrologer, MissMermaid.Net and I'm always reading astrology books because there's always more to know and I like reading other people's perspectives. I've been studying astrology since I was in High School - class of 82 and this is one of the best books out there! Definitely a find! Not the same old parroting of info.

Not very accurate in my opinion
I think this is a good introduction for anyone with an interest in Astrology and it has a fair break down on the signs, houses and planets not the best. I didn't like the style its written in someone else mentioned it was poetic maybe I agree with that. I didn't find the information on Scorpio to be accurate or the shadow-side either. Im confused by the praise of this book it must be from people who are novices. I think Scorpio is very misunderstood that is widely known in the world of astrology. I think we would be best understood by another water sign. I note this author is a Capricorn very dense (Earth) I wonder about his knowledge on matters of the conscious and subconscious since Scorpios govern these areas (Sex, Magic, Spirit Realms and Occult. I found the shadow to be written with a lack of real understanding borderline ignorance of Scorpio at some points written with alot of contempt. Since there are three Decans of Scorpio Mars Jupiter and Moon I didnt believe it applied to me but more Mars Scorpios since their darkness gives us such reputation (no mention of decans). I just feel this is born from a subjective opinion of us rather that someone who is fluent in Astrology and I have many books and many others were far more accurate than this book. Maybe he just googled it all up who knows but this is no best seller for me. Capricorns are far more dark than any of the signs are violent, greedy for money and ruthless yet he only writes barely a page on his own sign. I think he needs to revise the shadow in his own sign. I also note his moon is Aries and in my experience Aries are very jealous of Scorpios so imagine it must have been hard to write such nonsense with composure. I took a look at his birth chart and he has no water signs which means he has no innate psychic gift for be to believe the babble on subconscious. I am Scorpio Ascendant and Scorpio Sun Virgo moon and Jupiter Aquarius.... I know someone who is just a good writer. This book didn't resonate with me so I will return it in good faith.

Flowery and poetic writing
Very poetic and imaginative writing. Might be good for beginners especially people making their first transition from reading Sun sign columns. There are gems of insights in this book. E.g. The relationship between friends and one's dreams pertaining to the 11th house. What is useful is the shadow side of each zodiac sign which can be applied not just to one's Sun but also to other planets. E.g. the shadow side of Cancer may be to "stay invisible". Applying that to Mercury, it could be said that one should be aware of one's potential to remain quiet and in the background when it comes to communication.

The Inner Sky: How to Make Wiser Choices for a............
