Worth its weight in gold
This is my first experience with a reciprocating saw, so you'll want to take my commentary with a grain of salt. I bought this tool because I knew I would need something like this to cut through a wall under my steps to add more storage space (Drywall + Metal Studs). But in the short term, I figured I could use it for another purpose .. cutting roots of bushes that I wanted to remove from a flower bed that was up against a cement porch. Trying to dig them out had proved impractical in the past, and there wasn't much leverage to get to them with other tools. Two weeks prior I had worn myself out working at it for hours. After getting this tool and using a low TPI blade, I made quick work of the roots in seconds! Definitely a back saver! While I figure this will likely be one of the least used tools in my arsenal, it's good to know that it can be counted on when needed. As I said at the beginning, I don't have any other experience with this kind of tool. I did compare it to others at the local home improvement stores, and recommend you do the same as well. A few things drew me to this tool over others. (1) It's of a reasonable weight, and felt well balanced. I suspect this will be of significant importance to users depending on job length. You want something that isn't going to cause you too much fatigue - let the tool do the work, don't let the tool work you. (2) It's power was adequate for my needs. I opted for this corded model over cordless primarily because I knew I wouldn't be using it daily, but wanted to make sure I had constant power. It's 10 amps, which seemed to be in the middle of all the others I looked at, which lead me to believe it isn't too weak, and also not overkill. (3) The 4 positions for the blade is a feature I think could be of some use, maybe with respect to getting into tight corners up against a wall as otherwise the handle could be in the way depending on what your doing, or just as a matter of comfort for holding depending on the motion for side to side. The ability to quick change without having to loosen and tighten a screw holding the blade is nice as well. If you know that this kind of feature is important to you, you may want to consider the milwaukee instead for the rotating handle, but keep in mind that is just the handle rotating, and not the body. (4) The case is fairly decent. I like my tools in hard cases. De-Walt cases are usually pretty good in this area, especially with the closing hinges. The case on this one has adequate room for the tool, the manual, as well as blades, which you need to acquire separately. The DEWALT DW4892 Reciprocating Saw Blade Set with Case, 12-Piece will fit just fine and is a pretty good assortment of blades to get started. (5) The price was right. Getting what I believe to be a quality reciprocating saw for under $100 seemed like a decent deal to me.

Best combination of price and functionality
I had been wanting/needing a saw for awhile, but didn't want to spend the money that I saw for those run off battery. Between the saw, battery, and charger (+ blades) it was > $200. So, chose this saw for 1/2 that price - but of course have to live with the power cord. This was OK for me, even though I needed it mostly/initially in my yard. This baby did the trick so well. I had some stumps from some bushes that died in the last draught. To pay someone to cut/grind/... was a lot of money. And due to extensive root systems, digging them up would not be easy. This saw went through roots and stump like a warm knife through butter! I never had Dewalt equipment before, so took a change on this. It is well-made and changing the blades is very simple and does not take any tools. Dewalt allows for each direction you may need with a simple unclip-insert-clip and you're ready to go. Very nice. I'd recommend DEWALT DW4892 Reciprocating Saw Blade Set with Case, 12-Piece from Amazon for blades if you need them. I'm not a professional carpenter, just a homeowner with typical home-related jobs. Having the right equipment is key to getting the job done - this saw should be in your set of tools.

Great saw!
Having been a professional carpenter for 42 years, I have a lot of experience with power tools. What I like about Dewalt tools is that they have the power and dependability for professionals, but are comfortable for homeowners to use easily. This saw is a good example. It is light enough for someone without a lot of experience to use comfortably, and yet I have used this model for many years in my career. It has never let me down. There were rare occasions that I might have wanted a more powerful saw, but 99% of the time this saw was plenty strong. It is the perfect sawzall for pruning.I love the easy way to change blades! I would recommend this saw for anyone looking for a dependable tool for most jobs.

Recip Good!! Service??
Bought as replacement for same model which walked off a job site. Had first one for several years. Have a larger, heavier, more powerful Porter Cable which works better on certain jobs (say built-up roof rip after a fire). The Dewalt worked, just not as quick. You can buy a Dewalt comparable to the Porter cable for more money than the DW304 if you need it. The DW304 handles almost everything and being lighter makes it better for most jobs. The swivel head comes in handy and the blade attachment system is a nice feature. Homeowners - Don't bother with a heavy more powerful one... doubt if you'll ever use it. Trades - You know the right tool for the right job... Thought I should mention service since you could need it. Can't be as positive here. Strike 1- Switch on the PC went sfter many years of use and took to a Dewalt center for repair. They did but cord insulation cracked (or had cracked) right at grommet when returned. They had to see it to repair awitch but still had a second full cost repair charge. Strike 2- Saw a refurb and bought it (almost 1/2 off but still almost $200 bucks)in case I needed it (would have been handy on a recent job but could not foresee when I would next need it). Next needed it over a year later. Unfortunately. I plugged it in and NADA (inspected, certified, BULL). Never buying a refurb again and in case cashflow forces me too you can bet I'll check it right away.

Outstanding Reciprocating Saw!
Things I've used this reciprocating saw on: - PVC piping - Tree limbs (up to 6 inches in diameter) - Wood palettes - Wood and composite boards Things I like about this saw - Quick release blade mechanism - The corded male connector that you can tie your electrical cord around - Powerful motor to handle most jobs you'd throw at it The performance is great! I haven't had any complaints about the motor and its power output.

great tool for the home user - very sturdy and didn't heat up
I purchased this mainly so I could cut off the lower control arms on my cherokee XJ. Some portions of this were well over 1/4" steel since it was bout 3 pieces of solid steel pinch welded together. I used a bi-metal blade of of 18TPI. I probably should have gone higher to 20 or 22TPI for this thickness. I ran this unit for a good 20-30 minutes and it worked very well. At first i was unsure about the 4position blades, but i found it to be very very useful. It is also easy to change the blades with just the little flip up unit. I would recommend this to anyone. It costs now $89 at lowes, but i purchased this through amazon prime.

The Little Saw that CAN!
I purchased this saw for pruning Crepe Myrtles, the over grown hedges & bushes that just seem to grow too fast. In the past it would take me 2 months to do what I did with this saw is 2 days! I was around power tools all my life but this is the First one I bought for myself. I was always told as a kid to Work Smarter not Harder! This DeWalt Saw checks all the boxes. Its light weight, you can use any brand of blade with it, its so easy to operate and it will rise to any task you need to achieve. I have a little Black & Yellow helper now:)

rugged, powerful, and easy to use.
This tool is an exceptional value. The low price reflects the fact that this is a bare tool. There is no bag, case, or anything else. You get the tool; that's it. I love the DeWalt blade change system; just pull out the lever, take out the blade, drop in a new blade, and let go of the lever. Light years ahead of the old Alan screw designs! You can also insert the blade facing back or forward, depending on the application. You can also insert it 90-degrees to the tool, making it a very versatile saws all. The tool has plenty of power; I've bent and broken a lot of blades but never have bound up the saw where it stopped running. There is little to no play in the shaft, so cutting a true line is about as easy as you can get with a reciprocating saw. The foot design is very heavy duty and rigid. The fact that the foot doesn't flex could cause marring, but I seldom care about that since i use a sawsall almost exclusively for demo work.
