Worth every penny
I can't believe no one has reviewed about this knife. Its scary sharp outta the box, but it's hard steel will take and hold a steeper edge with ease, you just have to be sure to take care of your knives properly. But i don't honestly see anyone in their right mind spending this much on a knife and mistreating it. Anywho, the knife is a very beautiful, well made tool. You can spend hours just staring at it. The Damascus look is great, and does a very good job at hiding some scratches (in case u get is scratched). The balance is spot on, and the over sized handle is the best i've seen and felt, really. The pakawood is really beautiful. It's a knife with its own personality that (i bet) will last a life time. If it's in ur budget, buy it, its a no brainer. I own wusthof and global knives, the handling and looks of this Mac is head and shoulders above 'em. I still love my globals and wusthofs, don't get me wrong, but this is knife is in another league. And just a little side note, i have contacted Mac USA a few times (email and phone) to get their advice on a few things and each time i've gotten fast and great response. So its good to know that ur product its well backed up. As far as Amazon goes, the transaction was fast and flawless as always, so nothing new to brag about there.

The best Knives ever
My son bought me a wonderful set of (3) knives, (???) These were top rated and very expensive and I loved them. I needed a bigger chefs knife and I thought i would order the same brand. First I wanted to google to see what knives were currently #1 for sharpness, comfortability, and ease of use. This MÅÇ knife came up and of course, I needed to have one. I bought this and have loved it so much I bought a few more for our house in Florida! It's definitely my go to knive for everything!

Does not hold its edge for long
Expected more from this knife. The handle is not huge like I read elsewhere. Blade used only on Cherry and Walnut cutting boards on vegetables did not retains its edge. Use a steel regularly... I'll stick w/my Wustoff Classics, which have lasted for years.

As sharp as anything you've ever held
This is a gorgeous full tang knife with a razor sharp factory edge. In fact, the term razor sharp is thrown around too casually to describe the edge accurately, perhaps surgically sharp is more evocative. I exercised extreme caution every time I took it out for the first three months I owned it. Due to the steel's hardness, the knife has dulled very slowly. You are not supposed to use a hone with Japanese knives because the harder steel is brittle whereas the steel of western knives is soft and flexible. I prefer this kind of knife for precision cuts and I use it when that's needed, usually for doing fine vegetable cuts like chiffonades. Does the Damascus process add anything to the knife? I have no idea. This was a gift, if I were buying it for myself, I probably would have gotten the plain one instead of the Damascus.
