Great Game for all ages.

I bought this several years ago (2010 actually, according to Amazon!) so I feel I can speak to the quality of the product at this point. It's held up very well, with no pieces breaking or fading. Assuming you aren't giving this to a young child to drool, stab and otherwise abuse I don't see why it wouldn't last forever (and even then it still might, there are just no promises). The board feels like a standard chess board, not exceptionally strong (so if you have a kid who enjoys throwing things you might do well to have it laminated). The board (quartered) and all pieces come in a metal box (pictured). My only minor complaint is that the pieces are housed in cheap black plastic that feels a little flimsy (though that's hardly a huge deal if you're careful). The pieces themselves are well painted, with obvious attention paid to the small details (i.e., Bowser's spikes). The colors are vibrant (as any Mario themed item should be!). The set could easily be a display piece (my husband collects Mario products so that's what we've done with it). Mario and Bowser are the king pieces on their respective teams, while Luigi and Bowser Jr. serve as the queens (no, I don't understand why either). Overall I'd highly recommend this to any Mario fan who might want to learn how to play chess. Or perhaps someone extra competitive who wants to stab their opponent in the eye with their king piece (Bowser is certainly capable of this).

This set is really cool and the figures are really well made. Careful of the packaging though it comes in a tin which dents easily. Mine came dented but it wasn't bad enough to warrant a return as it will actually be used so it will get dented eventually anyways. The part inside that holds the pieces is thin plastic and the board is less premium than I would have preferred but its worked pretty well so far!

Ooh my!!! The little guy who I bought this for just learned chess in school! So chess and Mario=SHEER JOY!! HIS FACE LIT UP SO BIG WHEN HE OPENED HIS PRESENT AND HE LITERALLY SQUEALED!! And he played with almost everybody who attended the party for hours!! LoL It was worth every penny The quality is great! I thought about other chess sets like the minions which was nice quality too but they were Just two colors. Where is these are a lot more interesting the children because they're painted like the actual figure!! I wish I had a chest that like this when I was growing up!!

I bought this as a gift for my 17yo cousin. He is a huge fan of the Mario universe, but rarely played chess. I feared the chess aspect might turn him off to the gift, but he absolutely loved it! During my visit, he begged for challengers from both his siblings, his parents, and myself. I played two games with him, and his father requested that he take my place for regular games with his son when I'm gone. This is a first for these two, to my knowledge, and I'm excited that they could find something in common to enjoy together! The rubber pieces themselves are very cute and easy-to-stand in their positions on the board. The only placement issues come from when you have two large pieces next to each other, impending in each other's space slightly. My cousin and I solved this dilemma by doing a little role-play mini-battle until one of them moved--think Princess Peach and Birda having a slapping contest. It was very silly, but added an element of fun that chess normally lacked. Minor issues: My cousin did note that they painted Bowser incorrectly, having Luigi as the Queen piece while Princess Daisy and Princess Peach were bishops was initially confusing, and we both struggled at first with getting the coin pawn pieces back into their correct positions in the plastic storing case. However, the minor issues were very minor, and overall we loved this game!

This Mario chess set is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! It’s worth every single penny and I love it the colours work well together and the pieces look amazing there very detailed and made to perfection they look exactly as the game characters do and it’s a real eye catcher when you walk in the room it’s very unique and collectible it would make a fantastic gift to any Nintendo and/or Mario fan it also feels really good quality the pieces feel thick and solid it’s also very well presented in a gorgeous metal tin with nice art work and detailed design the tin case is worth displaying on its own I can’t recommend this enough it’s amazingly nice fast dispatch and delivery too
