Don't Give Up

Kyle, hits another home run with Don't Give Up: Faith That Gives You the Confidence and the Courage to Keep Going. I went through about every emotion I can think of reading this book. At times it was like Kyle was telling my personal life story and I am sure most of you will feel the same. He is gifted at combining personal stories with his insight and scriptural parallels to get his point across. I believe the book can be best summarized by what Kyle says himself on page 227. "Anyone can run downhill, short distances, the wind at our back. But what happens when the road tilts upward, the sun beats down, we're exhausted, and our strength runs out? In life, the love of Christ, when we truly understand it, when personally experience it, compels us. It won't allow us to quit." I know this to be true from personal experience. Please do yourself a favor and read this great book. I was privileged to be part of the launch team and I ordered a copy for some friends who are going through the challenges of Parkinson's Disease and I believe it will give them the encouragement they need. I will also be using it and the video resources for ministry in the local county jail that I minister at. #DontGiveUp

This book is phenomenal! Very easy to read with quick hits of humor and engaging examples to back the author’s points. “Don’t Give Up” walks us through Hebrews 12, and does an amazing job of showing how we can learn from the many people (both named and unnamed) in the Bible who deepened their faith in their darkest moments. I’ve been personally experiencing life-changing health issues this past year, and this book really helped open my eyes to the immense opportunity I have before me: Using my pain (both physical and mental) to connect with God. This book is for anyone going through obstacles in their life, whether it’s a rocky marriage, tragedy, an unfavorable medical diagnosis, stressful job… you name it. If you’re going through something difficult, this book is for you.

When we're in a dark place, the empathy and even sympathy of others may feel good, but we often need even more is rock-solid encouragement to persevere. That's the truth behind Kyle Idleman's newest book. In section 1, Idleman encourages the reader to live courageously. To keep believing, keep fighting, and keep perspective. He goes on to discuss, in section 2, releasing ourselves from the weight of four things that all too often drag us down: anxiety, religion, lies, and unbelief. He concludes his book with section 3, in which he encourages the reader to run their race. He discusses the obstacles often faced and how to navigate them step by step, in confidence. You might say that's nothing new, nothing you haven't heard before, BUT, and this is important, you haven't heard it through the words of Kyle Idleman. Several things stand out in this book. First, Idleman never deviates from Biblical truth. He doesn't put his spin on a passage, nor does he add or subtract from the Word. He simply presents what God says and then explains how it is applicable to our struggle to courageously and successfully "run the race" in the twenty-first century. And he doesn't preach at the reader. Instead, he candidly and with wry humor shares his own experiences and that of other individuals. Over and again, I found myself, often with a smile on my face but sometimes with a tear in my eye, nodding my head in acknowledgement of a shared experience or emotion and of the truth of Idleman's words. This book is for the spouse of an alcoholic, the parent of a wayward child, the individual struggling to tame their temper, the couple dealing with infertility, the young adult facing massive student-loan debt and scant means to make the payments, the person struggling with a chronic or life-threatening illness, someone fighting an addiction, the teenager who feels unloved and unwanted by his or her peers, and the list goes on and on. In short, Don't Give Up is for anyone and everyone, because all of us need Biblical, down-in-the-trenches wisdom on courage and perseverance in the face of life's challenges.

More than just a pep talk, there are practical steps you can take to get you through the hard times. Kyle encourages you to take those steps, even when all you can do is to put one foot in front of the other. I have also purchased copies as gifts for friends who are currently facing difficulties.

Idleman has challenged us again in Don’t Give Up. In his latest book, Idleman encourages to continue in our walk with God. He reminds us that sometimes that there will be distractions and challenges but it is worth staying focused on relationship with God and keep going. As always, Idleman offers a healthy dose of anecdotes, Scripture and humor making the book helpful and fun to read. He does dial back his typical comments in this latest title, but I found that it still works and his personality still shines through. I recommend this book for anyone working to develop or strengthen their walk with God. I did receive a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is my second purchase by this author,having originally chosen 'Grace is greater' Again,Kyle writes in a style that consistently links scripture with modern everyday struggles in life in a clear and easily understandable manner His style has depth and meaning as well as adding a little humour along the way
