Fire On The Amazon [1993] [DVD] [Amazon Exclusive]

A good story based on controversial subject matter. Well acted by the beautiful Sandra Bullock. I recommend this movie to a general audience.

Sandra Bullock portrays a very different character in this tense drama based upon reality, than in some of her more hip and comedic roles. With her characteristic poise and beauty, she portrays Alyssa Rothman, an American working for a group of activists attempting to save the Rainforest from over exploitation by ruthless organisations, aided by corrupt Police.Embroiled in the attempt to prevent dweller's homes and crops being burnt as development increases, and protect them from violence, a young American Photographer and journalist is imprisoned. Played admirably by Craig Sheffer, RJ, is imprisoned, but released through the efforts of Alyssa. They are assisted by Ataninde a Bolivian Indian (Juan Fernandez)who at first appears hostile, but helps them escape an ambush, and again from illegal execution by the corrupt Police chief.During a brief respite in an Amazonian village, Alyssa and RJ fall in love, and there is a rather beautiful physical love sequence set to romantic and rythmical music.But-this is not all happy endings, and a wounded Alyssa, dies on the small water aeroplane rescuing them, and Ataninde, trying to protect his people, is killed helping them escape by a sniper who uses a crossbow with Indian style darts, which he has used to commit several murders and implicate the Amazonian Peoples.Considering the 75 minutes running time, this film directed by Luis Llosa, and producer Roger Corman, achieves an epic character. The music by Roy J Ravio conjours up the atmosphere and underpins the action very dynamically. The film tells us that an amazing 70,000 acres of Rainforest can be felled and burnt daily, with incalcuable results for the Planetary ecology.This is a great film, romantic, tragic, sensitive, and poignant.

only thing about this film is you really need to be a big Sandra bullock fan.not one to rush to buy.

Very slow

I'm writing lots of reviews about Sandra bullocks just purchased about 15 of them so no complaints watch it

Why ? I am an absolute Sandra Bullock fan , I have loved all her films, but Why did she do this one it is so poor, I'm sure she maybethought it was helping the environment or something but no the story line was awful, and who told her male co star he could act,wooden Indians are better, Sandra was the only redeeming feature of this flick, don't waste your money buying it.

Good movie. One of old ones but has a good story line to it.
