Axils XP Series Reactor Ear Plugs has reactive interchangeable filters which block damaging noise while letting you hear frequencies to help you maintain more normal hearing around you. The filters are designed to let in low level passive sounds to allow you to have normal hearing whether damaging loud or intermittent sounds are happening around you or not. They provide an intentionally low NRR rating of around dB for passive attenuation. When loud noises occur the combination of disc and mesh inside of the filter provides an impulse noise reduction of as much as 33 dB. This model has smoke finish.

No protection at all
I was thoroughly disappointed with these.Backstory: I own 2 pair of axil GS extreme ($125) ear buds and they are OK, 4 of 5 (fine product aside from the very small and bad quality "hearing enhancement" feature) but this isn't a review for those...SO when I saw these ear plugs that claimed 33db reduction for 25$ I HAD to try them out. IF they worked as advertised they could be an amazing product. Apparently that's why I've never heard of them, they don't work. I tried out both sizes of ear plugs that come with it, I tried multiple times. And then damaged my hearing actually testing them with live .22 ammo. Very small noticed difference in sound and absolutely no difference in sound reduction with the "automatic mesh" devices for loud or quiet sounds. Possibly ~5db reduction across the board and absolutely would avoid at all costs. I'll be returning this product asap and sticking with normal ear plugs or my GS extremes.I would advise against this product. Toilet tissue is a better option if I had to choose between the two.

Wanted for Range Shooting, Just Does NOT Work!
I really wanted to like these... I am an avid shooter so I had my doubts (follow your instincts). I did not expect these to be perfect... in fact, my plan was to use these to double up along with my electronic over the ear protection. I fired two rounds, and it was clear that it offered little to no protection as my ears started ringing. I literally walked outside of the range and replaced them with my standard foam earplugs. I was firing higher caliber rounds along with some smaller ones. I would not even trust these with my 9mm.DO NOT buy these for shooting... they are dangerous.

Axil XP/Reactor
Well I didn't buy these from Amazon, instead from a special offer direct through Axil. They came to me in a sealed plastic pack without any carrier tube and with two different size ear inserts. If I use the larger set I get a good seal and the ear plugs function as advertised. It takes a little more work to get them seated but I can hear everyone talk around me and they effectively block the reports. That said, at an indoor range I prefer double protection so I wear a pair of electronic muffs over top. These aren't going to work for everyone but when they do it's nice to be able to have protection and still hear what's going on around you. Be sure to insert with the pull tab up so you can find it to pull them out of your ears. I had a bad time getting them out with the tab against the bottom of my ear.

Best plugs I've ever tried. 33db NRR for gun shots and continuous 16dB
I bought 3 sets of these.I shoot a lot of trap and sporting clays. Probably 5000 rounds a year.I also use these in a dug in hunting blind for goose hunting. I don't know what the one star reviewer's problem was. Perhaps he didn't understand that they give the highest protection for impact sounds while allowing conversation because of the lower rating for continuous protection. Usually, you have to use electronic ear protection for that. These are passive. No batteries needed. These reactors are 33 dB of noise reduction against loud impulse sounds ( like gunfire) while continuous 16db protection. So like if you're using a chainsaw . So while shooting and the guns are not being fired you can understand conversation. That's how these are superior to regular plugs. Not that they give better protection. The highest dB protection you can get is 33 and these give you that for gun shots while allowing you to hear conversations while no one is shooting.Foam plugs can also get to 33 , although the only one I'm aware of that give 33 are by Howard Leight. Many others are 32 and many as little as 22So highest protection for gunfire , 16 db continuous so you can still hear normal sounds and they don't require batteries. They are also at a good price. 5 stars all the way

False image
What is shown in the picture is not what was sent to me, they were smaller and the plastic pice on the end is flush with the end of the plug.
