Fujitsu Fi-6240Z Flatbed Document Scanner

I have an earlier iteration of this grand-and-a-half Fujitsu flatbed and sheet feed scanner. I've used it every day for several years and never had a problem. The scanner itself appears to have years of use left in it....but......beware, when MS updates its operating system Fujitsu DOES NOT PROVIDE DRIVERS for new Windows OSs, effectively turning your scanner into an expensive brick.

The organization I work for has now used this scanner for about a year and nearly 500,000 scanned pages. My personal experience is that the fi-6240 is a very reliable; low maintenance; fairly high-speed scanner. At the time of purchase, it should be noted that the Kofax VRS software that comes with the scanner; when purchased separately; costs about 1/2 of the price of the scanner. The Kofax software does make a noticeable difference. The image quality of scanned documents is better than what I have seen from MFP devices in the same price range.My experience with this scanner has been good enough that I am confidently purchasing a second. The office has a couple of older Fujitsu scanners that have held up for nearly ten years and millions of scans with only infrequent maintenance (there are two rollers that occasionally need to be replaced- and are available on Amazon for about $30) and two service calls. The service calls were expensive; although not as expensive as Fujitsu's maintenance plans.One trivial, but potentially helpful note: The scanner is very easy to setup. However the first time I did, I failed to raise the plastic paper-catch on the top of the flatbed scanner. After employees had been using the scanner for two days I received feedback that they hated it because it wouldn't keep their documents in order, and that it would shoot their papers all over the table. The plastic paper catch does not look very significant or useful; but once it was raised; it worked perfectly. My rating reflects the fact that the scan quality is excellent; the scanner speed is as fast as advertised; and for the amount of work scanned, it has been trouble-free.

Fujitsu has released official drivers for every version of Windows from XP up to and including Windows 10. What else can they do?
