Just thrilled, great quality!
Really great kit! I didn't know what to expect as I haven't purchased CanaKit products before. I have to say I was quite pleased with the quality of the case, the WIFI (which started right up) and the cables with a high quality SD card. Also the Rasbian experience, once you load it up, is quite good, probably the best Linux experience I have had and I have been using Linux for a good 6 years personally/professionally. That is what happens when you have a distro made for the hardware, and it is truly a boot-and-go-everything-works experience. Read the directions for the best experience, for instance on WIFI you have to click the signal button to connect up the first time and a few other things, but hey, you should always read the basics, it takes 5 minutes and is no different from any other OS. The PI has a great overclock utility that is warranty safe on preselected configs and is a click-and-go process on set-up. 3 seconds to go to 1000mhz overclocked on the quad-core and the heatsinks handle it just fine, but note, I don't really see the thermal transfer of double sided tape, so I applied the tape and exacto knifed the majority out leaving just the corners and used real thermal paste (just do a big BB sized drop on the sink center, I am a system builder and had some on hand, look up 'thermal paste' if you need some) and was able to lower the temps several degrees over the plastic tape for stable overclocking over long periods. It sticks just fine with the corners taped. Played video 1080p works great, web surfing faster than my 4 year old laptop, played Minecraft Pi, I love this thing. I just kept laughing when I got it out of the box, it is just so small, product pictures don't show how tiny this thing is, it's smaller than my hand! For extra fun and information on what to do with your PI or troubleshooting visit the official rasberrypi org website and check out the free version of MagPi magazine also on their site for what is hip and new and stuff to do with your Pi. Happy hacking!

Educational and fun for everyone!
I am a huge Raspberry Pi fan! This is my third edition (I previously bought the model B and model B plus). As a teacher, I use them in the classroom - they are cheap enough that I can buy many and small enough to fit in the limited space in my classroom. I also have several at home for myself and the kids to use. I've set one up as a server. The kids use them for games, surfing the web, school work etc. This has been one of the best things I have bought for the kids. What you should know about the Pi before buying it: This is a great tool to teach your kids about a different operating system (Linux). You can teach them introductory programming skills with Scratch (for young kids) or install Geany (or another compiler) to learn/teach programming in a variety of languages (we are working on python and Java). It's amazing to see a 5 year old working from a command line in a Linux environment! And the kids love it! This is not like a PC. Nothing comes pre-installed. If you have never worked in a Linux environment, you will need to google what to do or get a book to walk you through the basics. The nice thing is that software is open source so you don't have to pay for most things once you know what you want. This is not a powerful computer - don't expect high graphics gaming or doing anything that requires a lot of system resources. It is not meant to replace your current laptop/desktop. It is meant to be educational and affordable. That being said, it's fun to push it to it's limits to see what you can get out of it. It's great for the tech geek who enjoys building computers and tinkering with electronics. There are a lot of inexpensive fun add ons you can get to play with it. Or you can be creative and build your own. We've set up a Pi to be a home media center (connected to an external hard drive loaded with digital media). We are working with another for home automation. The possibilities are endless - limited only by your imagination!

The kit was a gift for my techie hubby. He is loving it sooo much! His only complaint was no USB hub. Yes, we will be getting one. However, for getting everything you need to start playing right away, instead of waiting for days between packages, it was well worth the price.

Nice, easy setup and installation. Interaction with OS is smooth and painless. Now to find more uses.

The power supply is poorly designed: the usb cable sits loosely and at an angle in the usb port, and the micro-usb connector does not maintain a good connection to the Raspberry Pi. Not practical to have to jiggle the cable all the time, and have the Pi reboot every time I touch it. This does NOT come with a casing. A kit like this one would cost you ~$30 less if you ordered directly from Element14. Or, for the same price, you would get a quality casing, mini keyboard and optical mouse included. I recommend this product to anyone who doesn't care about money or quality.
