Great Shoe
I'm old and fat. I can't do anything about the old, but I'm trying to work on the fat part. For me these are a great shoe and provide good support and grip while I attempt to achieve true jogging velocity for more than a mile without having parts fall off, twisting my ankle, or otherwise injuring myself. The shoe fits exactly as expected and the laces are very durable and don't slip or work loose. There appears to be plenty of cushioning and support that allows my forefoot to spread out w/o having my foot slide in the shoe. They are also reasonably quiet on most surfaces. I has an old pair of Asics trail running shoes (when I wasn't as old or fat) and they were so squeaky I hardly wore them. These work great for me when attempting exercise and are also very comfortable in daily wear when I'm too lazy to find my other pair of sneakers. As with almost any shoe from any brand, I would recommend finding and using a favorite insole as the ones included are 1/16 inch of pure nothing. Great shoe. If/when these wear out, I will be looking for another pair of the same. Now, does Amazon sell portable defibrillators?

Improvement over previous version. Great value!
Improved over the previous model. The stripes originating from near the side of the ball of the foot then extending upwards toward the back of the shoe, lets call these the STRIPES. In previous models these STRIPES were made of a material and were not as flexible or forgiving as the remainder of the shoe. This could cause extra agitation that seemed unneeded on outter side of the big toe near the large knuckle joint. In this model they removed that harder plastic-like material that they previous used for the stripes. In this model they use the softer fake suede like material for all the support where it was previously, as well as where the stripes are. The stripes are now painted onto the softer support material. This creates a much more comfortable shoe.I personally feel like these are 4-6 month shoes as worn by an over weight gentleman without cswapping the shoe every other day for another pair to let the foams bounce back. Under my daily use these seem great for a 4-6 month time frame, though they still seem in good shape material wise they just feel beaten up after some time. I will have to go back and wear the old shoes again in the future to see if they are really that bad or not. MAybe get a second life out of them.

Tight at first, fit better once broken in
Just got these yesterday, so these are initial impressions. I range from a size 11.5 to a 12 and usually go with 12 in a hiking shoe for a little looseness. Size 12 on these feels tight to me, especially in the toe area. I am seriously going to need these to break in to get a little more comfortable. I don't remember my last pair of ASICS being this tight initially. The rest of the shoe seems fine. The uppers appear to be well made. I don't imagine these will hold up a very long time on rough ground because the sole material seems kind of soft.Update: Now that I have walked about 10 miles in these, the shoe has loosened up considerably and is becoming very comfortable. Upping my rating by a star.Update 2: I am about 3 weeks in with these shoes and I've been wearing them almost daily and walking 3-5 miles per day. They're fully broken in and pretty comfortable. I like that the gel doesn't feel squishy like another ASICS product I've owned. It's deep winter and I've been wearing these out in the cold and snow. They're quite warm, and stayed dry walking through a 3" snowfall. The tread is not deep, and slips very easily on ice or wet floors, but is grippy on pavement.

good basic trainer, similar to Venture5
General purpose athletic shoes that are a comfortable height and width, competitively priced.ASICS are my go-to general purpose athletic shoe. but I tend to walk in them rather then run. For reasonably priced shoes, they hold up well; my old pair of Gel-Venture 4's has held up to three years of regular light use. They're starting to look worn and a couple of thread-ends are coming out of the stitching, but I've done literally nothing to keep them in good condition, and they still feel comfortable and don't look bad.As with all ASICS running shoes, order a half-size larger than you would in other brands. The Venture 6 seems to be very similar to the ASICS Gel Venture 5 (I tried both). This "6" seems to have a slightly lower rise than the "5", as well as a different sole (with opposing-direction V-shaped treads), differently placed ventilation holes, and a lower location for the pull-loop on the heel. The fit seems to be the same.I slightly prefer the (barely) higher cut of the Venture 5, but this is a good pair of running shoes. Recommended.
