Performs as advertised
I ordered this BP-809 battery from Eaststar (through Amazon) based on good reviews for the BP-827 and BP-819 generic batteries, and the fact that the price was 60% less than the original Canon. I chose the BP-809 model because it is the right size for my camcorder. Bigger batteries last longer simply because they are large. In the case of my Canon Vixia HF20 HD Camcorder, larger batteries interfere with the start/stop button. I ordered a Sunday and received the next Thursday this battery of the brand "BestBatt". The battery is a dark charcoal grey. There is no marking on the outer casing, on the connector side it is marked "For BP-809 7.4V 1000mAh Li-ion" (the original Canon is marked 890 mAh / min 850 mAh). The battery fits snuggly inside the HF20 camcorder. As delivered, it immediately displayed 2 bars out of 3, and displayed the remaining time: 76 minutes in photo mode. After a full charge overnight using the camcorder power supply, the battery displayed 116 minutes (photo mode) and 101 minutes (movie mode). I set-up the camcorder in Low Definition mode, and left the camcorder run in a long, continuous shot to drain the battery completely. The camcorder took 55 minutes 48 seconds of movie before shutting down. Recharged again, and the displayed time was 121 minutes (photo mode) and 100 minutes (movie mode). Left it 3 days without power, the charge is now 95 minutes (movie mode). All these performance are in line with the OEM Canon BP-809 that came with the camcorder. We will see if durability becomes an issue, but so far the battery works as advertised for less than half the price of the original. Performs as advertised, 5 stars.

The Best Canon Battery
Despite the fact that this perticular battery pack does not look identical to the battery pack you would have gotten with your camcorder it functions completely and just as well as that of the one that came with your camcorder. It is good to have an extra battery pack if you are going to do a lot of videoing somewhere and need more time than one battery pack will hold. Mainly because you cannot use your camcorder when it is plugged into power and it would also be extremely irritating to have a cord coming out of your camcorder as you use it. Furthermore I highly recommend purchasing this battery pack because even though it does not look the same as the one you have in your camcorder it is the same and is at a much better price than sold in stores or in other listings where the battery pack looks the same as the one in your camcorder. My total costs for this item amounted to $16.83 and most stores sell the same thing for about %100. Amazon itself also sells this item for $40 excluding the shipping so this is your best option!

Generic Batteries
I purchased two batteries as spares for my new Canon Camcorder. I tried them both out and they worked fine. They both showed over 100 minutes available on my camcorder after charging so the "intelligent" function worked. However, after one use, one of the batteries quit working. It wouldn't charge properly. I contacted the manufacturer (SF Planet)and first they said they would replace the battery but later said they didn't have a replacement and would refund my money. They have refunded my money. I would hope for better quality, but SF Planet responded quickly to my problem. I would buy from this manufacturer again.

Amazing!
I thought this would be a piece of junk battery, and that the camera wouldn't recognize how much time is left for usage. I'm using it with my Canon HFS200 and it works great!! It works as long as the original battery if not longer. I'm so glad I didn't waste *80 DOLLARS* on the one from canon, when I got this for 5 dollars and it literally is the same exact product. Now I have a backup battery that's perfect for filming longer times, and since my camera is a battery hog it is useful as hell!

Correct battery for my old camera
It matched the original battery, fit in the slot, and charged. Camera works on battery power again. What more could you ask for?

Battery will NOT charge.
I purchased a replacement battery for a Canon FS300. Original battery is a Canon BP-808, 7.4V -- 850mAh. Replacement battery is a Kastar BP-808, 7.4V -- 1500 mAh. Physically, the two batteries look the same. But the Kastar battery will not charge. Upon closer inspection, it appears the small pins are bent and/or misaligned slightly. This could be a manufacturing defect or an assembly error. The defective battery (Canon BP-808 I need to replace) has a rapid RED blinking light indicating a battery issue when I connect the camera to the charger. When I insert the Kastar BP-808 into the camera, I don't see any lights. It is the same result as when I plug in the camera with the battery compartment empty. I have contacted Kastar directly as they offer an 18-month warranty.

This battery has a short life span, but it does work!
I bought this battery several years ago to revive my old Canon camcorder. It worked just okay, not spectacular. The battery would drain very quickly after a full charge (gave me about 25-mins total recording time, which isn't great, but I was okay with it since I can use my old camcorder again). After about a year, that battery completely died. It wouldn't be able to hold a charge. I later bought 2 more of these batteries at the tail end of year 2024. They both performed a bit better than my first battery, each giving me about 40-mins of recording time. I used the batteries for a shoot in the summer of 2025 with no issues. After about 6-months of non-use, I took these out again on February 2026 to shoot something and now only 1 out of the 2 batteries can hold a charge. The one that works gives me about 20-mins of recording time. So overall, the life expectancy of these batteries varies widely, around 6-12 months at best.
