Ikea 201.194.18 Dioder LED Light Strip Set, White, 4-Piece

To preface, please note that I bought this to backlight my LG 47LM7600 LED TV which is about 6" from the wall. The dioder does everything that it says, and it is does it quite well. It is a very simple system and is quite easy to install. However, the cabling behind your TV will get pretty messy, but that is to be expected.The colors are decent overall. The yellow and orange spectrum are not quite as full as I had hoped, but this lighting system does do blue, red, purple and green very well. White light is also not quite as pure as I had hoped (a bit bluish green in my experience), but I was still satisfied with the color spectrum and did not expect perfection at this price. Also, it should be noted that this does get quite bright, and I have found that the best way to manage the brightness (since there is not a dimmer switch) is to choose how far from the center of your TV you place the lights through some trial and error.OK, so here is my problem. After installing the lights initially, I noticed that the light was a bit fragmented. This is hard to explain, but there were reflection lines in the glow that came from the strips. I noticed that this was because of the glass shell that houses the light strips. The glass seemed to block some of the light and show distortions in the glow from behind the TV which I found pretty annoying. As a perfectionist, I wanted a nice true glow from these lights without any reflections, so I decided to remove the glass shell. If you look closely at each glass strip, you will notice that the glass shell is only attached to the strip by one small dab of glue. By working a sharp knife into the glass tube, you can cut through the glue and easily remove the LED strips from the housing. THIS MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE.After mounting the LED strips alone, without the glass shell, I was blown away by the difference in light quality. The glow from behind my TV is smooth and even without any disturbances. I was amazed at how well this kit highlighted my TV and actually made the picture appear much clearer and brighter.This may or may not be a problem for people, but the distortion was noticeable after installing on a TV 6" from the wall. If you will be installing on a similar setup, I highly suggest removing the glass shell. It will make all the difference.

Im currenrly using this lighting set for my detolf and I gotta say two words, I'm astounded. When I first received this set, I was a bit confused on how everything goes. Not by plugging the cables in, but with all the parts and pieces. There is an instruction manual that tells you how things go in and such, but there's a specific page that shows how a "screw" goes into the lighting. Drilling screws into the lighting is something I'm not willing to try, due to the fact that I may get it wrong the first try. Plus it may look bad so I went ahead and used the sticky pads. Now when I used the lighting, another feature that I was rather surprised at was the amount of cabling they offer. The power and lighting cables seem to be around 10 ft each. Now this is just a rough guess so please don't quote me. I'm just looking at how it is from the set up and from what I witnessed when pulling the cables out of the box. As for how bright they are, they are bright. I didn't expect such small LED lighting to be this effecting. What's even more astounding is the fact that they don't get hot. I've left them on for about 5 hours before turning them off and they're just warm, like the warmth of your skin. Now the ONLY downfall I've had with this product, which is why I've rated it a 4 star, is how it's made. Not with the design and such but rather what it's made with. It is, and I quote, VERY plastic. The charger, light switch and LED receiver seems poorly made, like it's the cheapest of the cheapest thing you can buy on the market. As you can see in the pictures, they really don't have much of a beautiful or rather stunning look. I was hoping they would have an Apple type plastic feel to it. Maybe IKEA could change this in the future? -wink wink- Other than feeling all plastic and having a confusing manual, the Dioder LED lighting set is something I recommend buying.

It works great, the lights look awesome, The control panel is easy to use. The only downfall is the cords are too short, wish they were longer

it does the job but was not totally user friendly to install... the adhesive strips aren't strong enough to hold things even though LED strips themselves are very light. The metal clips provided use screws so small and not self tapping so they were hard to install, specially when you take into consideration you're probably working in a contorted upside down position to put these on the bottom of cabinets already installed. AS for the light quality - it's fun and cool to change colors with ease but the light quality - even on what appears to be normal white light does strange things to the color of things... for example under "white light" banana's have a orange hue to them, But if looking for accent light and the color reality isn't of huge importance if other light is available... great for the price and the quality involved is typical Ikea - Solid and strong.

GREAT product, I used it with my older model and it worked just fine. It's backwards compatible with IKEA units purchased over 15yrs ago :D Note: My older model was the one where you pushed the button and held it in order to cycle and select the different colors and patterns (still my preferred interface) because you don't have to see the controller and can hide the controller. The controller that came with this one you have to basically watch/see more of in order to actuate it.

Easy and simple to use.

Just got in the mail today. I tested the light strips before setting up. It has amazing lighting and color. I love the different colors and the light strip was perfect for my wife's vanity. Although i can't understand why she wants other colors like purple, blue and green the white light provides all the lighting she needs for her makeup and more. the strips have double sided tape to adhere them to just about any surface and the wiring can be tucked away and concealed from view. Once all is completed, I may post a pic of the finished product.
