Good business phone
Wanted an unlocked phone so I would not be locked into on service provider. This is only way to go folks, I am saving at least $30/month by shopping around and staying flexible. Phone easily networks with my home WiFi. Connectivity functions take a bit to get used to but are robust and flexible. Nokia suite allowed me to update contacts from MS Outlook easily. Maps work OK but have not played with application in multiple locations yet. So if you are used to a Blackberry and want a light phone that is built well this is for you. Keyboard is not as finger friendly as BB Bold but not bad and I am still getting used to feel. Skype is easy to set-up but if you go to Skype site you may find that application does not work. Don't worry, send Skype a note and they will send you correct link for this phone's appropriate software (whew!). Nokia browser sucks but you can download another browser if you use frequently. In summary, if you want a phone/email mgr first and a full PDA second this is a good choice. This allows me to stay connected to my email systems while networked at home or office and not have data charges (and better speeds). On road all applications via 3G works just fine under current AT&T Go Phone service.

Nokia E5-00 - Dead Within 5 months - Now raised from the Dead
Revised October 17, 2011. Rating changed from 1 star to 4 stars.I placed this cell phone in service on April 29, 2011. In early September it would not turn on. All recovery procedures recommended by Nokia's support site failed or were impossible to implement because the phone would not turn on. The telephone was sent to the Nokia repair center for warranty service. In accordance with their instructions I removed the battery. The phone was out of their center in a week. When I tried to start it upon its return it would not turn on. I then visited a cell phone repair center here in Panama that is under contract with my cell phone provider. They tried a new battery and the cell phone returned to life. I never had a catastrophic failure of the battery before and did not suspect that problem.I do believe that Nokia could have found the defective battery if they would have required that the battery be sent in with the phone for warranty repairs. On the day that I purchased the new battery and had my phone back in service, I received a call from Nokia asking about their repair service. Now that I consider a great plus in their favor.Overall, aside from the battery failure, I would give this phone 4 stars. The most objectionable drawback is the readability of the screen in direct sunlight. I am not an expert in this area but I have seen other phones that are easier to read in that situation. No problems in the quality and volume of the audio.I did have some problems in the initial setup of the phone which were probably caused by pushing the wrong keys in my exploration of the new device. Here I must commend both Nokia and ATT service people for the excellent assistance they gave me over the phone. Once I overcame those initial problems I had no difficulty using the phone for two weeks in the United States, with ATT and the Skype facility. When I returned to Panama I changed the SIM card to my local provider. The numbers on that SIM were easily brought forward to the phone.I use Skype and have found it works well, a little slow in the signing in at times but good call quality and it's easy to use my contact list. I have tested the email capability with Gmail but it is difficult to use the small key board and screen to manage the emails. Perhaps with more practice I will be more comfortable with email on this phone. When I was looking for this phone I had 3 basic requirements, GSM service, Wi-Fi capability and Skype compatibility. The first two could be ascertained from the product descriptions provided by the seller. To determine if the phone was Skype capable I used the Skype website. When I was searching there were many Nokia phones listed as Skype capable and few from other manufacturers. That has changed a bit now with some Android phones listed on the Skype website, but the prices on those are much higher that the cost of this phone.I find this to be a good phone, a great value.

More than expected
My old phone touch screen stopped working, for the second time and now I ran out of the 1 year warranty (yes the LG Xenon is a piece of junk). I bought this Nokia E5 phone as a "remedy", because I still have a couple of months left on my contract with AT&T and did not want to renew contract until I see the iPhone 5 in the summer. That was my thinking...I am so happy with this phone I am reconsidering the whole iPhone 5 idea. This Nokia is not a "super phone" but it does way more than I expected. The build quality seems outstanding also, and I am an Engineer, so I know a bit about quality. It is unlocked, so all I need is prepaid sim card and I can use it when traveling to Canada or Europe. I paid $179 here at Amazon, and it was well worth it. It is funny, because my first phone was a Nokia "dinosaur" when I was with Cingular, that was like 10 years ago and the phone still works perfectly. The other phones I had (like 5 others: LG, Samsung, etc.) never lasted the full 2 year contract.Great call quality, outstanding battery life, well worth the money...it is a Nokia, FIVE STARS!

Keeps freezing
I bought this phone based on how much I love the E63.This one as I understand its the next gen version of that phone. It has a lot of good stuff in it, features and software. But its keeps freezing, you cant multitask anything cause the phone will start running out of memory. I have owned it for 7 months and I just cant help but be annoyed. It feels like they packed so much into the phone that it cant handle it.I dont want to complain on getting too much, but it seems like this phone was rushed and not really properly designed. You have no idea how many times its restarted on its own, shuts off on its own, gets frozen. And the camera flash on the camera is so bad, makes every picture look faded. There has only been one firmware update since, which I hoped would address any of these issues but it didn'tI do like the GPS, mp3 player on e63 was better, you could still switch songs even if the phone was locked, the volume rocker is so stiff and the picture viewer doesnt allow for zooming into pictures. And pro side, it has a lot features and the reason I got was so I could use 32gb SD in it, but this phone has been the reason for so many frustrations that I just wish I could go back to my e63. The e63 had hot swappable SD this one is is under the battery. It's crap.
