One of the best things I ever got my son.
Before I bought this I did a lot of research and review reading. I took to heart the compliments and complaints both, and ended up buying this brand / model. I would like to address the complaints of the parents who thought two things in particular were issues. 1: Picture quality : This is NOT the greatest camera on earth. But keep in mind the age it's targeted to. Very young kids who- most likely- aren't going to stand still long to take a picture anyway. Kids who like to take pictures on their parents phone (or what ever device) who just want the freedom to snap and click and grab moments without thinking about it much. Look, I see it like this - one thing the poor picture quality has done for my son is caused him to LEARN to be still for a moment - because if he Is, the camera has a chance to focus (very slow shutter speed) and his pictures come out better. I call that a win - anything that helps him slow down and exert intentional focus is a plus. 2: The games : Many parents complain that a camera shouldn't have games. AGAIN - Think of the target age and market. My son plays the games, loves the games- all of which (as far as I can tell) encourage the user to take a picture of someone or something to use in the game itself. That is engaging, and totally uses the primary function of the camera. I see nothing wrong with that. It has volume control, which is a big plus. It has a large storage size and optional add on memory slot- also a big plus when kids tend to take a thousand pictures of the strangest things. (My gosh I remember how mad my dad got when we developed three rolls of film and he had ot pay for endless snaps of cats tails, the television playing cartoons, my foot... hah the money saved with digital for kids!!!) At any rate, it's been dropped and still works. It's been used, left on (with automatic idle turn off timer), it's been played with, Hard- and it's still on the first set of batteries and still has room for more pictures. All around, a Great buy if your kid likes to take pictures!

Nice camera
I liked this one. We had bought a different one (Discovery Kids) from Bed Bath and Beyond that was total crap and broke within a day. It had tiny memory, really awful screen and took terrible pictures My little guy (6) saved up his allowance for it and was really disappointed. We returned that and I got this one for him for Xmas. It's really cool - he has no trouble using the photo and animation editing features. It's pretty rugged and has withstood a lot of punishment so far. The pictures come out surprisingly well. My boys have had a lot of fun with the audio recording function, though most of what they record is fart noises, which they think is hilarious. It will let you apply audio effects to the recorded sound, and they love playing back the sped up farts. It also has some little matching games, which I think are cool, but my wife hates video games so she's not too happy about them. It will take the micro memory cards, which is great for expanding the 76MB free you have when you get it. Installing and connecting to the software you get from their website is easy, and they throw in a free "app" from the store there. No flash - but not really an issue. All in all, a good buy that I recommend.

Good choice for a child
Photography is my hobby, so I was interested in getting my 4 year old a camera. The pros of this camera: -solidly built to withstand the inevitable drops, - double viewfinder which is great because kids at this age have a hard time closing only one eye - option to view pic on the screen - intuitive controls - ability to take movies If you are expecting the camera to take pics like your (adult) camera you will be super disappointed. Unless the child stands pretty still, the pics will be blurry and you need to be in a bright room or the pics are dark. BUT I think that for a child's first camera, this is still a worthwhile purchase. Personally, by the time my son is maybe 6 I would get him a real camera, but for now he is so excited to take real pictures and he doesn't seem to mind at all how they come out. He also loves taking video with it. I look at this first camera as a learning experience of how to properly hold a camera, learning to stand still when taking pics, learning to get everything you want into the pic (we've had a lot of cut off foreheads so far!). Bottom line: good intro camera for a 3-6 yr old child for the price.

This is one of the great toys.
This camera is great. I think it is great value compared to the alternative kids cameras. I gave it to my daughter for her third birthday and she loves it. She is generally gentle with things, but does drop it on the wood floor occasionally and it is holding up fine half a year later. The actual sensor is recessed pretty far into the body, which if your kid is Ansel will help lens flare. If your kid is a booger eating spaz, it will keep their dirty mitts off the lens so their pictures stay sharp. The live view is displayed on the screen as they line up their shot, which is good because my kids don't really understand how to look through a view finder yet. I was concerned about my child's ability to figure out how to turn it on and off, and scroll through pictures. She figured this out really quickly. Batteries last a long time, and the card holds a lot of pictures. The pictures are low quality. Like too low to use for anything. Lots of chromatic aberration /fringing, noisy, blurry (duh). Most of them are of the floor, unidentifiable objects, fleeing pets, and people's teeth (she gets impossibly close for portraits) so not a big deal that they are not frame worthy. Just saying don't buy this with the thought that you can leave your D3X and have this on your next safari. You will enjoy seeing what they find picture worthy.

This is apt for the targetted age group of 3+ yrs. The received camera is good quality and sturdy build as shown in the pic on site. The actual pictures taken are ok - not great - due to only 1.3 MP resolution. That was expected. However, in low light it has tendency to blur too much. It needs just optimum light to take good photographs. Else it is blurred/too dark or over-exposed. Reduced 1 star for that. The viewfinder is great. But the LCD is also always on showing the viewfinder's contents. Not sure why both are enabled at the same time. Maybe there are settings for this. Don't know yet. My daughter (3.5 years) could figure out a few things herself. So it is easy enough for her. And she enjoys taking pics of the ceiling very much. In other words, works for her very well. The 4 stars are for that. A really good camera for young children. A 2MP+ resolution will make this a much better product.

Al abrirla e intentar ponerle las pilas, una de las bisagras para abrir una de las tapas venía rota. La otra tapa de las pilas imposible de abrir si no lo fuerzas. Lo hemos devuelto.
