Retro-Bit Official Sega Mega Drive USB Controller 6-Button Arcade Pad

I originally got this Retro-Bit control pad for a more authentic feel to the games in the 'SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classics' game pack on Steam. Up until this point I had been using my Xbox control pad and clocked up a little over 7 hours game time. However, the while the games work with the Retro-Bit controller in the Steam game pack, the pack interface was designed for the Xbox controller... So a lot of the navigation seemingly doesn't work with the Retro-Bit controller. Once in the games, the Retro-Bit pad works as expected, it's just a little frustrating having to switch to the keyboard to change games. This is by no means a fault of the Retro-Bit control pad, don't get me wrong. It's just a a little disappointing since it says it's an official controller, I thought there might have been some kind of support for it, since it is a SEGA game pack and a SEGA pad. Oh well. As a result, for a less clunky system I moved to using the Kega Fusion emulator. The Retro-Bit worked fine with that, defined the keys in the option menu, and all the games from the SEGA pack located in \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sega Classics\uncompressed ROMs\ work with it (just had to rename the files to .bin). The actual controller is really nice to use. It's smooth edges all over, and the buttons and D pad all feel nice, not at all clunky, loose or sharp. The cable is thick so should last being wrapped up around the controller (please don't do that) for some years. No drivers were required in Windows 10, just plug in and it's detected automatically as a 10 button (8 on the control pad usable) generic named 'USB Gamepad'. I wasn't a fan of the transparent blue before I got this, but it's much darker than on the box. It looks a little more green. I don't mind it, but I think I'm still going to open it up and give it a quick spray inside. There is little to see in there anyway. Overall, very happy with the purchase. It makes playing the games all that much better.

I bought this to use with Retroarch on my PS3. As it states on the box it's compatible with many different USB enabled devices and provides instructions on how to connect with each one. For me it was literally plug and play as it is already mapped for the PS3 so can operate the main menu XMB and no doubt will work on some PS3 games like the Mega Drive Collection. Once in Retroarch I needed to map the controller and when done I could play all my Mega Drive games as they were intended to be played. Virtua Racing, Street Fighter 2, Road Rash 2, Sonic the Hedgehog to name a few now had that retro feeling back. Well worth the purchase!

Overall, this is a really decent reproduction of the 6button Mega Drive controller, I'd imagine old timers will like it a lot. It looks cool and is well built. 4/5 stars because I didn't like the feel of the DPad (personal preference), if you're like me and don't get on with this DPad give the Retro-Bit Saturn pad a try, its slightly more clicky and feels much better to me.

I bought this for my megadrive mini, this is the best controller to get for it, it fits perfectly into an adult hand and works just like the original megadrive 6 button controller

Great fun, and easy to connect.

Excellent pad as expected, however it only has 1 shoulder button and this seems to the 'select' button (there is only 1 'start' button, on the front of the pad). To be honest not suitable for a game where you would want to use 8 buttons (eg. 4 front and 4 shoulder) eg. many Street Fighter games.

Kein Vergleich zu den globigen Original 3-Button Controller. Hier hat man 6 Knöpfe und eine praktische Schultertaste um sofort zum Menü zu gelangen. Die Kritik von dem ein oder anderen, dass man mit dem Zeigefinger leicht dran kommt kann ich meinerseits nicht bestätigen, da ich diese unter meinen Controller halte und nicht direkt dort oben. Somit kein Problem für mich. Das durchsichtige blaue Design gefällt mir übrigens sehr, sieht noch viel besser aus als auf den Bildern und verliert keineswegs an Retro Charme. Die Verarbeitung macht zudem ebenfalls einen soliden Eindruck. Auch das Kabel hat eine angemessene Länge. Wer so eine Sega Mini Konsole hat, sollte sich diesen Controller unbedingt noch zulegen. Zwar sind es zusätzliche Kosten, aber es lohnt sich. Wären die doch mal lieber gleich dabei gewesen.

Un referente en como se ha de hacer un mando pensando en el sistema en el que se basa. Como poseedor de una antigua megadrive, he de decir que es perfecto para jugar a lo retro en PC, megadrive mini 1 ó 2 y otros sistemas. Obviamente no está dirigido para juegos modernos con control de visión al no poseer sticks, botones superiores o palancas. La repuesta es perfecta. Además para las megadrives mini tiene el botón mode. He de indicar que la presentación es estupenda y el precio me parece insuperable. Edito: Supongo que habrá sido mala suerte. Con muy, muy poco uso, ha dejado de funcionar. A ver cómo me va el mando que me envíen de reemplazo.

Questo joypad è assolutamente degno del nome Sega: è comodo e leggero, ha un'ottima funzionalità così come le rifiniture. Proprio non capisco le critiche in merito alla poca precizione della croce direzionale: anzi, da quel punto di vista funziona meglio questo (possiedo il medesimo modello anche in versione Mega Drive oltre che questo via USB) che l'originale joypad d'epoca del mio Mega Drive d'annata...e badate che sono uno che le cose le apre e le mette a posto per conto suo, quindi la motivazione "eh, ma quello è più vecchio e poi dopo tutti questi anni è normale che sia peggiore" non regge. Un fattore altamente a favore di questo pad su licenza rispetto all'originale, sia in versione USB che Mega Drive, è rappresentato dal cavo, qui più lungo e soprattutto più morbido, al contrario di quello di serie dei vecchi pad anni '90 che era sempre troppo spesso, più corto e poco movibile. Ultima nota a proposito del colore: in colorazione blu trasparente, la tonalità della versione Mega Drive rispetto a quella USB appare leggermente più scura rispetto a quest'ultima, però la qualità è la medesima.

Va fino y te pega el golpe retro. Plástico de calidad, sólido y más cómodo de lo que lo recordaba. Funciona con Megadrive Mini. Ni plasticoso, ni chinoso, nada cutrefacto, al revés, una frescura.

I got this amazing controller today and I was pleasantly surprised at the length of the USB cable, I failed to see when I made the purchase that it's 3 meters long which is perfect, not only that, I gave it a good test run with some good old Mega Drive games and this controller is much more responsive than any original controller on my Mega Drive, it sits comfortably in my hand and has the same feel as the original controller, overall a must buy if the intention is to play any games on all the supported platforms and even more so on a PC hooked to an old fashion CRT TV or Professional CRT.
