It does everything I expected and a bit more. Works with my 1996 Audi, my 2008 BMW, and a variety of Mazda, Ford, and Toyota vehicles. I think it counts as “two way” because it can tell the computer modules in the vehicle to do a few things. I was concerned that it might not work so well with the German vehicles, especially the older Audi, but was pleasantly surprised that it’s able to communicate with the main ECU, the airbags, the transmission, and the ABS. The UI isn’t perfect but it works. It gives complete and clear identification (manufacturer, model, software version and sub-version) of the computer module it is talking to. It at least currently doesn’t unlock frivolous features on my BMW like some of the BMW-specific software does, but it can interrogate the state of all the switches and sensors for really convenient fault-finding, and can reset service lights/intervals. I believe it can release electronic parking brakes, although I haven’t had to try that yet. I say “currently” because Autel does seem to release software/data upgrades for various models, downloadable (free so far) from their website once you have registered. It extracts and resets freeze-frame and other OBD II data (smog test readiness monitors) just fine, as you would expect from any modern diagnostic tool. I haven’t figured out if it is possible to simultaneously plot more than two live sensor values at a time, but two has been enough so far. (Eight values for a V8 would be convenient, for example.) A little more model-specific repair advice from the fault codes might be nice, but it’s only a tiny inconvenience to type the code into Google on my phone and get a ton of advice from all the forums. Comes with a decent blow-molded carrying case that should keep it stored safely. The device exterior seems rugged and sealed enough that the normal shop environment shouldn’t kill it. The screen is easier to scratch than I like, but maybe I can find an iPhone screen protector that fits. It’s not a touch screen. I would like a longer cable on the OBD plug, but I do have my own extension cable for those times when I want to work from the engine bay instead of the driver’s seat. All-in-all, this is a lot better value than any other scan tools I have purchased. It’s enabled me to find the exact problem with a complicated BMW (GM!) transmission (awd transfer case) and repair it for a few hundred $$$ instead of the dealer’s proposed $4,500 complete transmission replacement. It’s been very well worth the money for me.

Item worked perfectly on a 2013 Sierra SLE 1500, I needed to bleed the ABS after changing a wheel cylinder out, it walks you step by step through the process. Its good that it does this as normally you would start air bleeding the brak lines starting with the farthest wheel away from the master cylinder, which is the rear passenger wheel. This tells you to start at the drivers front left, then front right, rear right then rear left. It worked perfectly. Great price for this product that does exactly what you need it to do, at must less cost than a commercial version.

This is a scanner given the price with a surprisingly impressive number of features usually found only on much more expensive units, - automatic bleeding of ABS brakes and the diagnosis and resetting of airbag generated trouble codes being two of them. It also enables the user to tap into live data. which is actually relevant and from which you can make repairs. There is some variance in the Autel's capabilities from one manufacturer to another. For instance it can perform an automatic brake bleed on a Chevy but it may no be able to do the same on a Mercedes, and while it can perform some very sophisticated operations on a BMW's battery,- evaluate rate of charge, determine current draw. reset the battery diagnostic system when replacing a battery , and even charging the battery from it's own diagnostic port, it can't do that on my Silverado. That these operations are available for any make of car is to me pretty amazing. The scanner can be a little balky when using. Sometimes the screen is slow to respond to prompts, and when selecting a module to access live engine data, that same module provided a completely different set and type of data from one test session to the next. That said, if you stay after it, this unit provides a lot of information, way more than another brand of scan tool that I had been using. By way of example, I was able with the Autel to do a misfire test on each of my eight cylinders, something I couldn't do before. In sum, this a tool that with some knowhow and common sense can provide the home mechanic with real help in diagnosing engine problems and repairing anti-lock brake systems. Finding something that is more than just a glorified code reader in this price range is a real plus.

Just used it today , I am so glad I bought this unit from Autel .this model exceeds expectations! And has already saved me hundreds of dollars. Very easy to use ,it solves so many problems, what a great ! Introductory unit !! This is worth every penny . It even does ABS auto bleed. Any beginning DIYer has to get this.. you won't be disappointed..

No need to charge. Just put the switch in your cars' female connector mostly under the starring and the scan will start to let you know about the problem in your car. Anyways Not found any fault in my car (thankfully though).
