Beados S2 Glitter Starter Kit

Beados are great. We've had multiple packs and kits, and our 6 year old daughter loves them. They are super simple for her to create by herself, and she loves to show us her creations. She uses both the patterns and creates free-form designs that turn out wonderfully. Definitely a great creative project for a child who loves to create and "do it by herself!"

Santa brought this for my daughter. I knew from other reviews, and a video review I saw, that the pen would be useless, so I warned her before she started that I thought she likely would need to use her fingers instead of the pen, and that her nimble fingers may be better. But what really annoyed the crud out of me is -- WHY, oh WHY, would you not have a pod for every color of bead? It is totally unrealistic to think that if you want to switch colors, you would take all the beads out of the pod, and put them back in the tiny, flimsy, torn plastic bag you pulled them out of. It would probably cost the company another 30 cents to provide 3 or so more pods so you could just keep the different colored beads in separate colors. I ended up scrounging up baggies to store the colors not currently being used, but it's really inconvenient and messy. The actual things my daughter has made came out cute, but the thought process on what is included and how to store this stuff makes it more of a headache than most moms want to deal with. If my daughter had not specifically asked for this from Santa, I would not buy it for her. Since she did ask for it, and does enjoy making the projects, it's passable, and fine (but there is a lot of room for improvement).

Fun little kit! You get the pen, four or five bubble holders that attach to the pen, several colors, and two mats to make your creations on. There are also stencils to make the pictures shown or you can be creative and make whatever your heart desires. Super easy to make, just spray finished design with water and let dry. My kids had a blast with this and the little creations are pretty durable. Unless they get in the pocket of your 6 year olds jeans that end up in the wash. That's not so good. :) Fun little activity and definitely will be getting more!!!!

I purchased this starter kit for my 8 year old daughter as a Christmas gift, since it was on her wish list. I had watched several toy review videos and was already expecting to have issues with the pen jamming, so I let my daughter know this beforehand. I will admit to being pretty skeptical about this toy after reading some of the reviews and watching the review videos, but my daughter loves crafting so I caved and made the purchase. She was prepared for the pen tool to jam, but tried it anyway. She was actually able to figure out a way to easily un-jam the pen tool with this little tap/shake motion. It worked like a charm, so she still insists on using the pen tool. I do wish that there were enough pods for all of the colors, but for now we just keep the extra beados in small zipper bags for safekeeping. I will add that my daughter is a bit of a do it yourself-er and she insisted on creating things on her own (outside of the templates) and she became frustrated when the things she created freehand did not set or hold once sprayed with water and allowed to dry. Most of this due to the fact that she did not understand the concept of the need for the beads to touch other surrounding beads for support. When using the templates and the bead tray there is a bit more success with having it stick together, but most things take several applications of water and dry time before setting completely. For the younger kids this toy would be difficult to entertain with, as most younger kids that want instant gratification. Unfortunately the wait for things to dry is pretty long, especially when multiple sprays are needed. If your child doesn't mind the wait, then this toy will be a hit, as it is with my daughter. Extremely disappointed with this toy. The pen is a good idea, but not functional. It kept jamming and we finally resorted to using our fingers to place the beads. After investing several hours spraying, waiting, checking & realizing the beads weren't sticking together, we gave up. The toy does not work as described! Some beads stuck together, but most didn't, even after re-spraying and allowing it to dry three different times. A disappointing waste of money, unfortunately.

This is SO much fun. She already needs new beads for the beado but she had a ton of fun using it. I've already bought more beados for it. I love that she didn't use the already given designs. But I love that they offer them

The end product is cute and my daughter had fun with this kit, but I was disappointed that the instructional pamphlet pictured a pair of tweezers that were not included and the pod-pens were pretty much useless. She had to pick up and place the beads in place by hand and they were hard for her to grasp. The beads ended up spilling all over and the packaging does not make clean up an easy chore. We will need to put these in a large rectangular Tupperware case to keep them from making an additional unnecessary mess. On the plus side, this does inspire her creativity and she was excited to use this because she watched some Youtube videos of kids making them. Happy she's happy, but we will not purchase these again.
