The 15″ square end-grain chopping block is the ideal size for any home kitchen. Large enough to chop, cleave, carve, slice and dice, small enough to stow when not in use. End-grain construction means the wood grain is vertical to the cutting surface. A modern and more compact take on the butcher blocks found in old-style meat markets, this block will endure years use, yet is gentle on knife blades.

Awesome
I spent a week researching the right cutting board/butcher block. I almost broke down and bought a $150-$200 Boos board and I am very glad I found this one last minute. It's end grain, very well built and beautiful. It's a bit heavy but my wife who is petite has no issue getting it out when needed. It is made by a company that provides maple butcher blocks to the North East and Canada; they've been doing it for over a century. I bought Boos mystery oil and block board cream with beeswax to protect it. After several months of cutting on it, my Victorinox Fibrox chef's knife is still very sharp and the block has not shown any signs of warping or coming apart. I oil and wax it (1 coat each) once a month and I wipe it down with hot soapy water and dry off immediately after use. The first oiling I did 10 coats of mystery oil to all sides, one coat every half day or so. At ten it stopped soaking up oil and started to sweat. I wiped it up and applied the board cream with beeswax.

Love this block -- looks and works well.
This is a nice chopping block, with a beautiful appearance. It was well-packaged and without any structural flaws. As soon as I opened this, I conditioned it more using multiple coats (spaced out some hours apart) of a beeswax and mineral oil conditioner. The day after, I started using this for a variety of uses including chopping vegetables with an 8" chefs knife and making buttermilk biscuits and 6 pie crusts. Both sides are well-sanded, which means that I was able to use a bench scraper to smoothly clean pastry bits off of it.Tip: it is heavy (as is any hardwood of these dimensions), and you want to consider how you store and clean it. It is easier for me to just find a permanent home on my counter for this, and clean can with damp cloth than to try and move this to the sink each time I want to clean it.

Love it
Great quality cutting board. Keep it oiled with Mineral Oil, use water on it minimally, wipe it down with a kitchen disinfectant and it should last a lifetime.[Update] I've been using this board for over a year and a half and yet to experience any cracking, warping, or splitting. I can't help but believe many of the reviewers who've experienced these issues are actually the victims of user error - that is, they've no idea how to properly care for a cutting board, sharpen a knife, or season a pan and blame the equipment. {JMHO} Working as a professional cook in a commercial kitchen, I seem to spend a lot of my time trying to convince 'amateur' staff members not to put our high-$ John Boos boards through the dishwasher. Even they'll split if abused by ninnies...

Save your money buy a different board
Piece of crap board. Let me start by saying I seasoned this board for 9 or 10 days twice a day before I ever used it. The board cracked 4 days after I started using it. I scrape my boards and wipe them down with a damp towel and stand on edge to dry. When submitting for warranty the mfg recommended I go buy some food safe old glue and apply then sand it. Will not buy another board made by Wood Welded Boards and neither should you.

Great Cutting Board For the Money
The end grain design saves your blades and is fairly self-healing. The size and weight of this thing is ideal for the average home kitchen. Looks good on the counter and is easily maintained with just an occasional brushing with mineral oil (local pharmacy). I placed 4 plastic feet on the bottom with tiny brad nails so that the board is suspended above any moisture. Every couple of months, I flip the board over and reinstall the feet on the other side. The small brad holes (1/4" depth) heal up with time. The only thing I worry about is how long the glued seams will last. There sure are a lot of them. Only time will tell.

Best Cutting Board for the Price!
The cutting board exceeds my expectations in every way. It is solid, high quality maple end-grain cutting board that could be used professionally. The board is reasonably priced and I expect it to last decades with proper care. It has such a nice appearance that I am thinking of ordering a second one to be used as a table top. It did require copious amounts of Boos Mystery Oil to initially prepare the surface but that is normal to varying degrees for all new end-grain cutting board. I would highly recommend this cutting board, chopping block to a friend.

A well-made and beautiful block at a very reasonable price
I have owned and regularly used this block for close to nine months. It still looks and feels brand new. I added feet (similar to these: Shepherd Hardware 9144 3/4-Inch Furniture Tack Glides, 4-Pack) to the bottom to ensure that moisture doesn't get trapped if it sits on the counter. I wash it soon after using and dry it right away. I oil it (with Shepherd Hardware 9144 3/4-Inch Furniture Tack Glides, 4-Pack) once a week or so. A homemade mineral oil and beeswax mix would work just as well.

Good quality. No signs of splitting or cracking after ...
Good quality. No signs of splitting or cracking after several uses. Used a LOT of mineral oil before applying. I kept applying, rubbing in, and letting it sit for several applications. Within minutes it had sucked up every bit of oil every time, and when it stopped quickly sucking it up is when I stopped applying. I reapply after about every 5 washings, and it sucks up the oil quickly every time.
