The Kindle Oasis is amazing for hardcore readers
At first I used to only like paper books but found it tough to bring during traveling or reading at night. I was going to get the paper white kindle but the warm light is the main selling point in my purchase for the Oasis. The ergonomics makes holding it very pleasing and doesn’t have an uncomfortable feeling after long reading sessions. The back being made of aluminum makes cleaning very very easy. Although it’s aluminum, I’d still recommend a protective case or cover because the price of the Oasis definitely makes it an investment. The front of the Kindle Oasis is very user friendly and easy to navigate. The full screen front gives it a very sleek and modern look and feel plus the addition of the turn page button allows for satisfying page control. The touch screen is very responsive and will only slow down at points that require internet such as the built in Goodreads or when looking for new books in the Amazon store. The touch screen also registers actions without needing to press firmly on the screen. The warm light and built in light are the main features that sold me on this because it allows for easy and comfortable night time reading without the strain of your eyes or having to keep the lights on in your room in order to continue reading. The battery life is not as strong as I was expecting. In sleep mode it holds its battery life very very well. When the Oasis is in use the battery can start to run down faster when the warm light and brightness are set at high levels. The auto brightness feature is very nice but I’ve found it often turns the brightness up to high levels which eat away at it. But even then after a week of constant use it only dropped down to around 50% battery life. There are a lot of features the Oasis offers that are helpful. Being able to translate on screen is helpful but not always necessary. The option to change the font style of books you’re reading is a very nice feature that I didn’t think would have as much of an impression on me as it did. One of the more common features I found useful is the highlighted sentences or phrases you’ve found meaningful. Once highlighted the Kindle automatically records the highlighted phrase into a easy access folder called “clippings” in the library section. This helps for being able to go back to books you’ve read in the past and shows the book, date, and time you highlighted those meaningful quotes and phrases.Overall I am very impressed with the Kindle Oasis. The only noticeable dislike I have for the kindle Oasis is that there is no option to have custom screensavers when the kindle is in rest mode. The preset screen savers are satisfying, but it would be nice to have the ability to put your own photos or even the covers of the books in your library or currently reading books as screen saver options. If you’re an avid reader, I strongly recommend the Kindle Oasis, but if you are not super super big into reading, you may want to look into alternative options such as the Libra H20 (which is similar in design), the Kindle Paperwhite, or a Nook.

I was on the fence until I used it. Will never go back.
I recently purchased the Kindle Oasis for a month long trip to Greece. I am an avid reader and I have typically used my phone, computer, or other tablet with the Kindle app to read my books. While this works for short bouts or reading, these are not ideal form factors for heavy reading.I finally bit the bullet after months if not years of avoiding buying a dedicated reader. I have to say I was more than pleased. The Oasis, for me, is a perfect blend of features and functionality. The weight and size is perfect for comfortable reading. The side bezel is perfect for holding the unit and the buttons on this side are great for turning pages one handed. (reading in bed, while holding a drink, eating a snack, etc.). The page buttons are configurable which is great since I preferred the next page button to be on the bottom instead of the top. The auto rotation of the screen and buttons made switching hands painless and convenient. The adjustable backlighting and screen color temperature features are great. I use different setting for outdoor reading and indoor night time reading.Battery life on the unit is solid. I typically keep the unit in "airplane" mode unless I am downloading / purchasing new books. The interface is responsive and met all my expectations for a unit like this (it's not a generic tablet for web browsing etc.). I personally find buying books / content easier to do on a computer or my phone than on the Kindle directly, but I do make purchases on it directly when it is not convenient to use an alternate device.Another big plus of the unit is that it is waterproof / resistant. This makes it worry free to use it in the bath, hot tub, pool areas, or even just areas that may have wet counters etc. Not having to think about that or worry about it is very nice.I use my Oasis with no cover. I do not feel it is necessary and would just add bulk / weight. I have no issues holding it and find I have a solid grip on both the bezel face and the rear metal cover. Your mileage may vary.THINGS I WOULD IMPROVE:* I would move the power button so it is not on the same side as the button bezel. When holding this in my left hand, I would semi-regularly hit the power button and turn off the screen. Not a deal breaker for me but an easy fix.* It would be nice to be able to upload your own image(s) to be used on the lock screen. It would be a nice way to personalize the device.
