MTD 732-04076A Extension Spring ZINC 1 Part

Needed to replace a broken spring on an old 2004 model. Replaced and working like new with the proper tension again.

Fit and work good so far.

No MTD part number sticker on this, but good quality....This is a very stout spring and can be difficult to install with your hands... main problem being that you are working within the confines of the tractor frame, no easy to get both hands / arms up in there and still see what you are doing etc.I found that if I replaced the standard mounting bolt on the frame side with a much longer threaded rod with nuts and flat washers, I could use the extra length to reach forward so the spring did not need to be stretched so far to hook.Then after hooking the spring between two nuts and flat washers on the rod, you can tighten the nuts that hold it to the frame side which stretches the spring into place with the power of a 1/2" ratchet and socket from outside the frame.See photos attached

The spring I received has much more tension and looks thicker than the broken spring on my mower. Not sure if it's the right spring, I initiated a return. Buy-it-now-store allows the return but I have to pay to ship it back. Not sure if I want to spend the return shipping and end up with nothing or marking it as a loss of online purchase.

Good fit, spring only lasted a few months. For the price and delivery time I'd at least like to make it through the summer.

The spring that arrived did not match the broken spring I took from my mower. So either my old spring had been replaced previously with a spring that was incorrect or the spring that was sent to me was incorrect. The length was correct but the new spring was much heavier and had much more tension
