Writing Arcade Expressions: for ArcGIS Pro

Excellent book, highly recommended to learn how to, e.g., create unique ArcGIS map popups. Allen is a great author on these topics, this book provides excellent real-world examples with the appropriate amount of (e.g., popup) design decision-based context (developers + user scenarios) truly applicable to web GIS map makers. His books are suitable for UG or grad-level introductions to spatial modeling and online map customizations.

This was a good introduction to Arcade, but not one of Mr. Allen's best publications. Book is pretty thin and could have contained more material and examples. Overall a good, basic introduction to Arcade, however. Arcade can provide some quick solutions that Python doesn't do well. Not really any other books on the subject yet. If this scripting language gains traction, it'll grow and there will be more available.

I have to admit, when I first opened up the package, I was rather disappointed in the size of this book as generally, computer-based instructional books are a little heftier. I thumbed through it a little bit and thought to myself "ok...lets go through this book and see what it has to offer". After the first exercise, I already learned two things that I didn't even realize Pro could do and I have been using ArcGIS products for 20 years.Mr. Allen's book gets down to the basics from page 1 and doesn't mess around. The chapters and exercises are well laid out and the detailed instructions provide a good method for learning. Additionally, completing the challenges at the end of each chapter are key for reinforcing what was learned in that exercise.I am very happy to see that someone tackled this topic of "arcade" as there are bits and pieces of information around the web and in ESRI documentation, but this type of manual is what should be provided. If you are a GIS professional and don't think you will use Arcade...think again and if you need a detailed approach of the ins and outs of Arcade...BUY THIS BOOK!

It is worth way more than $40!

I considered myself already proficient in Arcade when I picked up this book, and while many of the exercises affirmed that I also picked up several new tools and best practices along the way. I'm very excited to have my future GIS Interns use this book to learn how to use Arcade in a structured way. The author did an excellent job of hitting on the major foundations of Arcade in a way that I expect will remain relevant for several years, even as the language continues to evolve. Nice work, highly recommend for both newbies and dabblers!

difficult to understand the contents of the book, this is supposed to teach a new beginners, this is for advanced users who already know the java language
