Estes 1499 Rascal and Hijinks Rocket Launch Set, Prebuilt Beginner Flying-Rocket-Model Set for Ages 10+, Includes Launch Pad System

I bought the Estes 1499 Rascal and Hijinks Rocket Launch Set for my 7-year-old nephew, and he loved it! Even though it’s recommended for ages 10+, with a little adult supervision he had a blast launching the rockets. The prebuilt rockets make setup easy, and the launch pad system is simple to operate. The rockets fly straight and safely, and watching him get excited about science and engineering was priceless. This set is a perfect introduction to model rocketry for younger kids, as long as an adult is around to help. Highly recommend!

Hadn't fired a model rocket in over 30 years, so this looked like a good place to start over. This kit is an amazing value, since it includes a launch pad, a launch ignition system, and two ready-to-fly rockets. All you have to do is buy some wadding and rocket motors, and you are on your way. We took these two rockets to the park and launched six times without any mishap. The launcher and launch system worked great, and the rockets were recovered safely each time. We only tried A and B engines, but plan to try some Cs next time. Summary: 1. No assembly required for the rockets-- just attach the recovery 'chute and insert a rocket engine. 2. Launch pad was easy to assemble (5 minutes) 3. The launch ignition system worked flawlessly 4. All instructions were easy to read and follow 5. Lots of fun! Advice: start with the A8-3 engines. The rocket will only ascend about 400 feet, and will be easy to see and recover. We then tried B4-4 engines, and the rocket seemed to travel twice as high.

Although I say I bought it for grand kids in truth I wished for one when I was there age but never got it. Guess I am reliving my youth through my grand kids and this rocket kit. Worked first time no problems. And yes you have to buy rocket motors separately but if you read the description and reviews you know this. The instructions were rather vague but if you pay attention it goes together great in a few minutes even with 3 three grand kids helping!

We have lift off! Three successful launches the first time out! Easy to assemble, set-up, and launch. You need to buy A-83 engines and wadding separately. Not a big deal. The launch controller might malfunction. This is a simple fix. SOLUTION: The batteries did not fit tightly in controller which results in a bad connection, the light on the launcher not illuminating, and no launch. I solved this by putting a small piece of folded tin foil between the battery and battery plate. See the photo. It worked like a charm.

Works great! Maybe too good. It goes way up. Lost sight until the parachute opened. Luckily we angled in to the slight breeze because floating down the wind carried a long distance. Was a hike to retrieve. The kids loved it.

I bought my kids an Estes Rocket two years ago for Christmas. They got a lot of great use out of the one, but it was pretty beat and the parachute no longer worked well. For their birthday, they asked for red and blue rockets. This fit the bill! Great price, two rockets and minimal assembly. The only down side -- both were lost after the first launch! my sons put their most powerful engines in these and the soared incredibly high. However, though the day was almost windless, the rockets could not be found. So I bought another set since the price was so reasonable and now they have three launching pads. We may need to invest in a tracker, though those things are the price of about 5 or 6 of these sets -- so maybe not.

I bought this to share the experience I had as a child firing off rockets with my son. He absolutely loved it and I was thrilled. The rockets worked really well. Pushing that button on the launch controller is a bit of a beast at times however. All in all a great purchase.
