Great Can, Great Design!
Love this trash/recycling can! It has a couple of very minor drawbacks, but it more than compensates in other areas. We have a small kitchen with multiple entrances, so space for a trash can is very limited. We previously used a (much loved) no-touch can for trash and collected our recycling in a Target bag hanging on a doorknob. This brought it all together in one attractive, non-stinky bundle. It opens and closes with as little as one knuckle and wipes clean easily - features much appreciated by me (head cook and bottle washer). There's even a little corner caddy for compost if you're into that kind of thing. We first used this model in an Airbnb, and we liked it so much I messaged the owner for the manufacturer's name when we got home. They were kind enough to send me a link (along with a ringing endorsement). Theirs has reportedly been in service for several years in their rental, and it's clearly held up well.Pros: Trash and recycling in one receptacle, sleek stainless steel look, easy removal of trash bag and recycling bin, easy to clean, fits standard 8gal trash bags (we use Hefty), easily open/close with one hand.Cons: It's square shape makes it a little bulky, reduced capacity for trash (vs standard 15gal trash can)I decided the reduced trash capacity was actually a pro in our case. I used to wrestle an overflowing 15-gallon trash bag (double bagged) down my basement stairs to the garage about once a week with dogs nipping at my heels. Now, I carry one 8-gallon Hefty bag out the door whenever it's full - No struggle, no mess, no cramming it down to fit just a tiny bit more. The same is true for the recycling. The whole bin comes out, and I just take it with me to dump in our garage receptacle. While the price tag was initially a bit of a gut check, we're very happy and wouldn't hesitate to purchase it again. All the stars.

Controversy, Conspiracy, Scandal... Nah It's just a review of a garbage can
Well, let's be honest it;s a review of a very expensive garbage can which can sway opinions wildly. When comparing a honda and a audi the criteria is going to be different and so it goes.I needed a smart garbage can that would be smart (meaning it had a couple of compartments for garbage and recycling) , that would be the perfect size, that would be easy to clean, and that was aesthetically and structurally solid! To Summarize, I needed something that was designed well, looked great and worked! The internet and amazon pushed me in pretty much one direction, Simple Human. I was sold... until I began to read the reviews and saw the insane amount of people posting pictures of very common problems that I knew would drive me nuts. Mainly, easily dents, latch breaking causing the lid to open halfway or not open at all. These are functional nightmares. It is the number one thing a garbage can needs to have working throughout it';s entire life, the latch and the pedal. If that is the thing that breaks it's time to toss your garbage can.. in the garbage... oh god.So I hit the pause button and looked further and found this amazing can. Yes, the price was steep so the can just hung out in my saved items list for a god month. I was extremely weary spending this much money since the ratings for this product are not perfect! And comparatively they are similar to Simple Human, with the same reviews stating that the lid gets stuck, finger prints show, build quality is crap, SO now that I own one what do I think?I think this garbage can is nearly perfect. The design is outstanding minus a couple small gripes. The overall idea is great. One can, two compartments that are easily accessible. YTes, please! Each compartment has a plastic bin that easily slides out and can be used with a bag or alone. My two gripes here are, if you are not using the JJ bags and have some cheap alternative that is slightly bigger you are going to be extremely irritated trying to have the bag fit nicely into the overall can. It wills tick out and look terrible. The second design gripe is the food scrap bin. This is designed to fit inside the garbage can which in theory is great however if your garbage can is full of nasty stuff (which theoretically should be in the scarb bin) then you are setting your scrap bin on top of a bunch of garbage. For the larger bin this may not be a huge deal wince you have much more room but for my smaller alternative can the scrap bin takes up a 3rd of the space and will ultimately sit in a pile of garbage? The solution, remove it or throw anything wet and nasty in the scrap bin.Other things that may be of interest:Design QUALITY:I am perfectly happy with the design quality and did not have misalignment issues like others. The can looks and works great. Yes, some components could have been engineered out of better material but overall I am very satisfied.Lid and latch:Works great. Smooth and fast. I also did not experience any problems with lid not opening ort latch breaking. The lid is plastic and I agree with others this could have been made of a better material.Odor ControlI actually find that this works well and have to disagree with others. The moment I leave the liud cracked I can instantly smell onions and other stuff I cooked.Fingerprints:I have the stone color and yes if you catch the light just right you will see smudges or fingerprints. But to me this is normal and not a big deal. Just wipe it down and you are good to go. I have yet to get to the point where I find the garbage can looks obviously nasty. I think it hides prints well.Other thoughts:I did receive the first can completely destroyed however this was a shipping problem not a design problem. Amazon as always fixed it right away.

Great trash/recycling unit
I was on the fence about spending this much money on a trash can. I needed something unique because I was leaving it out in the open. So looks played a part in my decision, but also function. I was intrigued by the over under design, in addition to the compost bin. I received the trash can, it was larger than I expected red, which was a good thing. When you lightly pressed the opening handle, the lid opens gently. You can just as easily press the lid closed. Inside the first unit is the compost bin. The bin itself is very well designed, and it’s easy to use the custom bags (my only negative regarding the bags is the fact they are pretty pricey). The compost bin, while functional and well designed in regards to how it sits in the trash bin, the lid is loose, and I suspect will let smells out. I would expect the lid to close tightly, perhaps there is a legit reason for it to be loose, but I don’t know what it would be. Moving down to the recycling bin, it’s a good sized bin and it has wheels do it slides right out with ease and back into place. All in all, this bin was worth the money, the bags are worth the money for me as I don’t produce a lot of trash. For a single person household, I think it will do well and it looks great to boot.If I have opinions or experiences over the next few months, I will update this review.

Be careful with the orange inserts
Overall we are very happy with this product. It has minimized our trash/recycle footprint, which is great for small apartment living. I would give this 5 out of 5 but there is an issue we ran into is after about 5 months of normal use the plastic of the bottom bin (we use for recycle) started to rip. It is ripping along a spot that has cutouts to hook the bags on it, but that just made it weaker. It could have been how I carried the bin or just a weak point in the structural integrity of the plastic. The trashcan is easy to clean, looks great, very functional, just be careful with the bins.
