Worth the money
Good construction and writes well. Had to replace mine with this one as TSA confiscated my last one. Be aware it isn't allowed in carry on luggage.

Every day carry
I’ve carried this for the last couple of years. It’s a great little safety carry, but also has a pen on you all the time. The pen refill is a good quality Parker pen refill.Carrying it every day as I do right next to my folding knife has worn on the exterior, but it’s still a solid purchase. I’ve bought them as gifts and have a couple extra laying around for back up

A Solid Tactical Pen for Everyday Carry
I decided to give the Smith & Wesson SWPENMPBK 6.1in Aircraft Aluminum Refillable Tactical Pull Cap Pen a try after browsing Amazon for a sturdy EDC tool, and it’s been a reliable addition to my pocket. I’m just a regular guy who likes having something practical for writing and self-defense when I’m out hiking or just running errands.Build and DesignThis pen is made from T6061 aircraft aluminum, giving it a solid yet not overly heavy feel at about 1.4 ounces. The black anodized finish is sleek and resists scratches well, even after a few weeks of daily carry. It’s 6.1 inches long, which feels balanced in hand, and the knurled grip helps with control, whether I’m writing or gripping it firmly for other uses. The pull-off cap snaps on securely, though one Amazon reviewer noted it doesn’t stay put on the back end while writing, which I’ve found true—it’s best to set it aside. The pocket clip is sturdy but has “Smith & Wesson” embossed prominently, which some reviews, including one on X, pointed out isn’t ideal for discreet carry since it screams “tactical.” I haven’t had issues, but I can see why it might raise eyebrows at a security checkpoint.PerformanceAs a pen, it writes smoothly with the included Schmidt P900M Parker-style black ink cartridge, handling everything from quick notes to signing receipts without skipping. I swapped it for a Parker gel refill for even smoother writing, as suggested by a reviewer, and it’s been great on all kinds of paper. For tactical use, it’s designed like a kubotan, with a blunt, pointed end that feels like it could pack a punch if needed for self-defense. I haven’t tested it in a real scenario, but it’s hefty enough to feel reassuring without being bulky. Amazon reviews praise its durability and balance, with one user calling it a “great backup weapon” for situations where knives aren’t allowed. It’s marketed for outdoor, survival, and camping use, and I’ve found it handy for small tasks like poking holes or prying open gear.Pros and ConsThe pen’s simplicity is a plus—no extra bells and whistles, just a solid writing tool with tactical potential. The lifetime warranty from Smith & Wesson adds confidence, and at around $20-25, it’s a good value for the quality. However, the cap’s loose fit when posted is annoying, and the branding on the clip might not suit those wanting a low-profile look. A few Amazon reviews mentioned the ink refills being small, so you might need to stock up if you write a lot.

Worth $22 to possible save your life
As a pen it works as well as most you can buy like Bic or the like. As a self defense tool it is pretty solid and has lots of grip. But let's be clear this is something you should be putting allot of speed and momentum behind. In its design it is made to put allot of force to a concentrated area. That should be somewhere vital Eyes, Neck, Ribs, and Chest. Your goal should be to put your attacker down and not to scare them because this is not an object that will scare anyone. It's made to be discounted as a serious threat and in that sense it is a good surprise. Since the pen is made specific for a reverse grip it seems that people should get the simple physics of its use pretty quick to quote Antonio Banderas " The pointy end goes into the other man". And be aware its a strong round point and not a Sharp needle point.I can't stress enough that you must hit HARD, FAST and OFTEN with this pen. You will probably only get one chance if you are outnumbered or attackers are also armed. This pen is just made to carry anywhere and since most people would not know a tactical pen to look at one it will go unregistered if someone might see it. Because I have showed this pen to a few people and even a local cop I know. It was not until getting the pen in hand did anyone see it was no ordinary pen.Item shipped fast and was not damaged. For just $22 at this point it could save the life of average Jo citizen who can't fight, but in a life or death situation can use a hard object to put his or her attacker down. Like anything this pen is worthless in a survival situation if you don't have it or don't know how to use it. So make sure this pen is with your wallet, on your keys or in your pocket every day so it is there when you need it. But beyond that play with it while your watching TV or reading so its a known object in your brain. Work on yourgrip and even practice some tight to your body stabbing motions. Just 20min a day will make a huge difference.IT'S NOT ENOUGH TO JUST HAVE IT. YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE SKILL AND CONFIDENCE TO USE IT!

Very good!
Pull the cap to access ink stick. The other point is for braking windows and "dirt-bags."Writes very well. Incredibly useful tool for your edc.

2 in a row absolutely useless. Poor quality control.
First one was great, 2 years later bought another one. Completely useless as the screw end that hides the pen will not come off even using tools. Sent it back.Got the replacement, same thing.Again I already have one that does work and am familiar with how it's made and assembled. Poor quality control and 2x in a row being useless has me never buying from S and W again. As a comparison, I bought a Black Fly pen and it's just as well built but unlike this one, it actually works.
