Yes, in my opinion. I am elderly-74 yrs.-although my arthritis is not too bad. I estimate that the necessary force to push down the activator switch is less than 2 pounds. Hope this helps.

What is "Frustration-Free Packaging" and why is it so much less expensive?

The phrase, “frustration free packaging”, is supposed to refer to packaging one can open without a scalpel or hatchet. In other words, the product isn't packaged in one of those stupid plastic heat-sealed enclosures that became popular some years ago. One prime example is batteries used to come in a box. Now they're imprisoned behind a plastic barrier that I have to use an industrial saw on. An example of this kind of packaging would be a nice plain paperboard box that one can open out flat and recycle in the bin.

how to rinse the blade after use

This type of can opener doesn’t actually have “blades”. I has some sort of “wedge” that simply separates the glue seal between the can and the lid of the can; hence, that is why there are no sharp edges. This is an awesome can opener, even though occasionally, on some larger cans, one might need to have the can “travel” around the opener two times in order to break the strong seal of these larger cans. I have used one of these openers in the past, and have just purchased another one having lost my first one due to a move.

I have both Hamilton Beach can openers like this. The other one comes with scissors. The look alike and work alike. However, this one is a shiny chrome and shiny black finish, while the other one is a matte silver and black finish. I personally prefer the matte finish, but it costs more (you do get scissors). They both make opening cans easy, even cans with tab openers. I can never open those cans with the tab. Both leave no sharp edges. Take your pick, they are both great, but the shiny, plasticky finish gets 4 stars and the matte finish rates 5 stars in my opinion.

Used my Hamilton Beach electric can opener today and am impressed by its ease of use and the clean cut it made in removing the top of the can. At first I couldn't even tell it was cut. I just removed the top as if it were a lid. No sharp edges. Bravo!

Excellent Can Opener

After several unhappy experiences with electric can openers, I took a chance on this one by Hamilton Beach. I was prepared to be frustrated again. In the 9 months since, I have been grateful for this little work horse. It cuts through cans so quietly and quickly that I don’t even realize the job is done. You do have to hold the can while it is working. No sharp edges, no gunk build up. Great product. Mine is plugged in, so I cannot comment on battery life.
