Well worth the price
First of all I would like to say this is a VERY nice and sturdy sword and I have paid 3 times this price for something similar and as long as you can sharpen it... BUY THIS SWORD!!!! Whoever said it came very sharp was very wrong. …. I do 2 tests for sharpness and they are simple things to do... 1st position the blade at maybe a 60 or 70 degree angle over a fingernail and see if it wants to grab or slide with very light pressure.... a sharp edge will want to grab right away and not slide across your fingernail. The edge this came with would slide but grab only if you put weight on it. My second test for sharpness... get a Ziploc bag... because plastic like this isn't abrasive like paper. Use a magnet to attach one corner to something steel and hold the other corner with your fingers and do a slow downward slicing motion....slowly drawing the blade towards you....and it should slice the Ziploc bag like it didn't exist. As this sword came, it failed both tests badly but I use a 1 by 30 inch Delta belt sander... discontinued for 20 years now and PLEASE don't buy the Harbor Freight 1x30.... PURE JUNK and to get the belt tight you have to adjust it to be rubbing the frame. Anyways I use a 240 grit belt and another 600 grit belt on another Delta machine and then also a long leather strope like the barbers use nailed flat on a board. It only took me about 5 minutes to turn this mediocre edge into something razor sharp. The steel is listed as 1060 and that's good for this long blade and the sparks were correct. Honestly I've never bought a sword that I couldn't make sharper and for 100$ if you can sharpen.... this is a 300$ sword. I only gave 4 stars because of the edge.

Excellent quality
For the money, this is an excellent sword. I have no idea if it's actually 1095 or T10 or whatever, but it ticks all my boxes. The saya is natural wood and gorgeous. The sageo and ito may be synthetic, I'm not sure, but they sure don't feel "shoe-lacey." The fittings are all tight - no shaking, no rattling. The sword is a little loose in the saya for my taste, but that's quickly fixed with a bit of shimming and to be expected at this price point. Humidity changes wood drastically, so don't expect perfection every time. The blade has no bo-hi, and an excellent hamon. It's clearly authentic and not etched on. I'm not sure about the handle. It's a little short for my tastes. But the blade has a clear distal taper and is quick and lively, especially for a no bo-hi blade. Highly recommended.

Overall good quality
Very sharp, felt well put together. Pommel cap thing was loose but I just glued it on. Blade had a coating on it that came off with light use (see photo) I realize it's only cosmetic.

NOT DAMASCUS STEEL
I specifically ordered this Katana because it was a great price for a Damascus blade. Unfortunately there is nothing Damascus about the blade that I received.

amazon katana with bo hi and beige wrapping on the handle
I just bought and received and tested yesterday the katana with beige handle with a bo hi.Just like the first one with the brown handle and no bo hi these two katanas cut mats very well. Both are clay tempered and for the price what you get is one of the best deals out there. The onlykatanas in the same price range are the munetoshi lion dog 1060 clay tempered and some of the musashi 1060 clay tempered katanas I have bought. Also with amazon prime the shiping is great.Ray Blundell

Looks tacky, acts tachi
What first offended my when I opened the box was the overly glossy tsuba and suka. The paint on them makes them look like they are made of plastic, giving the sword a kind of mall-ninja aesthetic. What made we decide to keep it was the excellent steel quality of the blade. It preforms better than some of my more expensive katanas. I got one without a hamon and it is definitely heat treated carbon steel. The blade has a Very slight bend to it, a nice distal taper and a very well done bo-hi. The blade bends to 20 degrees and springs back to it's original shape every time. I took it out to do some cutting and I am hugely impressed. my oak trees were starting to shoot out some irritating lower branches that smack me in the face when I am mowing but this sword took care of them, slicing cleanly through branches up to about 3/4 of an inch no problem. Many katana in this price range would have taken on a bend after this kind of impact. No rattling or gaps forming in the stupid looking fittings either. I am going to keep this sword around because I love the blade but it won't be winning any beauty contests and it CERTAINLY will not pass as a historical reproduction.

A good company
It's a very well made blade. I've personally spoken to a very nice seller of these blades and here are the details for the 3rd itemIt's a very well forged blade. Well sharpened 1095 carbon steel the handle is true to its design, color, and shape. Tsuba is the same and sturdy with its design. It's full tang as advertised (Due to the forge process the blade might be relativity thick and top heavy or otherwise perfect.) All around a good blade. Very satisfied.

Not some cheap mall ninja sword.
I ordered option 1 with the gold locusts on the tsuba and I was surprised to find out just how solid the sword is. The blade did come wrapped in plastic and coated with some weird preservative that required polishing to get clean, but it didn’t come with some ugly made in China stamp which was awesome. As other reviews have said it comes definitely needing some sharpening but over all this is a very nicely made product.
