DISAPPOINTED FOR WHOLE SHOW NOT PRESENT, BUT VERY GOOD FOR A BRIEF INTRO TO THE 1981 TOUR.
1981 was a watershed year for the Stones. "Tattoo You" which was an album they made from throwaways from many years back took the word by a pleasant surprise with "Start ME UP" being a beloved classic before it even becoming a classic. One thing I can say about the album is that it is very good. The boys perform "Let's Spend The Night Together" for the first time since 1966 which is even more raw and more raunchy than its inception back in the 1960's. Loved the opening theme with Duke Ellington's "Take The A Train" and how it parlays into a very hard rocking "Under My Thumb." "Shattered "is ok, but not as electrifying as it was when the boys played it three years earlier with the "Some Girls" tour. A few gems do stick out: "Going to A Go Go is a nicely performed; the Stones' cover of "Just My Imagination," is raw and hits home, and "Let Me Go" features some of the best drumming you will hear live from Charlie Watts. But buyer beware. Although this concert album is good, it is missing about half of the concert that the Stones played. Out of 23 songs on each setlist every time they played only 11 make it to this album which is very disappointing if you ever heard the concerts which is not hard to find as the Stones taped every show on the tour...For the die hard Rolling Stone fan it is nice to have in your collection. For the new comer to Stones live acts, Some Girls Live, Get Yer Ya Ya's Out double live album. Love You Live or the new Hyde Park...Sweet Summer Sun might offer a glimpse of the band when they put the whole show on disc. I like it a lot, but "Still Life" should have been a double album without any songs removed from the tour. Because of this, I downgraded the album to 4 stars rather than 5.

Good for your collection only
This album is from the '81 tour supporting Tatoo You. It was the first tour of the Stones that I had the opportunity to see. As an album it is pretty thin, but looking back at it now more than twnety-five years there are a couple of tracks that make having this for your Stones collection worthwhile. The opener Under My Thumb, as well as Shattered, brought back good memories and the takes are quite fresh, and then to a lesser extent the takes of Imagination and Time Is On My Side are also good to have. The thing that is haunting about this album - an obvious toss off by the Stones - is what would the rest of the show have sounded like if they had bothered to give us a second disk from these shows with great tracks that were being played live for the first or second times such as When The Whip Comes Down, Waiting On A Friend, Black Limousine, Beast Of Burden - all of which were part of the set list for that tour. Nearly thirty years ago.

The Stones were good on that tour and Still Life is a good ...
The Stones were good on that tour and Still Life is a good live record but doesn't document the over all performance of the live concert. This version is Remastered & sounds amazing. If you're interested in the full concert pick up live in Hampton Virginia it was the final show of the U.S. tour that was shown live on ON TV remember ON TV back in the late 70s early 80s? and most rock radio stations nation wide. The Hampton collection has 2 cds a blu ray or dvd.

Mmy review of "Still Life"
. This is an album I did not have. I have a list of all from the Rolling Stones. This is a truncated compiling of some songs during a concert tour. Better to get albums / dvds of full concerts.

Still Life still rocks!
I had this on vinyl back in high school....it has my favorite version of "Under My Thumb" I just recently purchased "Hampton Coliseum Live '81" from google music....it's great, but the version of under my thumb is different and not quite as powerful in my opinion. Some of the versions are the same. I had to have this back in my collection....it's a great snap-shot of the stones during this time period!

One of My Favorite Live Albums Of All Time!
The Stones are great on this cd! Recorded on their 1981 tour this alnum delivers perhaps the best versions of "Under My Thumb" , "Just My Imagination" and "Satisfaction"! This is Jagger and the Stones before they went to having backup singers and in my opinion a "Too Polished Live sound". This is more to their simple Chuck Berry roots.

First time i seen the Stones.
34 years ago i was 19 and me and 2 buddies jumped into my car and drove to the Orlando tangerine bowl to see the Stones. From what i remember it was a great show perfect weather. I just wish they had put more songs from the shows on this album. For that reason i give it 3 stars.

Early 80's Gem
Too bad it's not a full concert. Very good sound. The band is in good form. Bill Wyman on the bass! Worth it for the live versions of Under My Thumb, Imagination and Shattered. Live set that follows Some Girls and Emotional Rescue. This is the tour where Keith swings his Telecaster at a guy climbing up onto the stage and connects!

Good listen but not great value
I can't decide between 2 or 3 stars. Went with 3 because I love The Rolling Stones.Still Life is the CD offering of The Tattoo You American Tour 1981. An interesting period in their career and the first tour to be billed and promoted as their farewell final world tour.but...Still life title is odd. Is it a parody of still live? As in they were considered old by 1981 (hard to believe but they were a considered a 1960-70's band). Writing this review in 2019 makes me laugh out loud as they are still touring. This gig was a set list of 25 songs long yet this CD offering gives nothing more than a snapshot of 10 selected songs. I don't know if this is because it was originally released on vinyl and record length restricted how many songs made the cut? This is typical of early CD releases that merely mirrored their vinyl and cassette counterparts with no additional benefit or value. What is stranger is the footage for The Hampton Court Palace gig and the Sun Devil Stadium, Arizona gig are very high quality as they were film recorded for a movie later called Let's Spend The Night Together.A quick YouTube of Rolling Stones Sun Devil Stadium Arizona 1981 will give you a better introduction to the tour and a handful of songs plus probably the best footage of the Stones I have ever seen.I'm really hoping the Sun Devil Stadium gig is released in its entirety by the band start to finish no editing on DVD to add to their From The Vault series.A quick online search of Sun Devil Stadium set list will give you the list of all 25 songs they performed that night. You can do the same search for any venue of the 1981 tour.Let's hope they release a full official offering in the near future. Until then this CD is great on first listen but it's over before you know it and leaves you wanting more.Probably the best version of Under My Thumb I've ever heard. Mick Jagger can still sing with melody and in key here in 1981 but only when he chooses to. I also like their rendition of Just My Imagination.

This album has it's critics but I've always really liked it. Give it a go! The recently release Brussel Affair is worth a listen too.

CD review
I went to the concert and bought the LP, now I have the CD. Great price, lots of good stuff on there. I don't go in fo all this what is/was their greatest album stuff, give it spin and you'll be rocking away in no time. Fits in very well with all the other Stones discs that I've got, great to listen to in the car as well.
