The Essential Alan Parsons Project

This 3 CD import collection is the one to buy vs. the 2 CD version mostly available in the USA. Though this collection does not contain all of the best based on personal tastes but does a heck of a job. I burned 2 additional CD's from the remastered core of 10 plus the subsequent AP releases and now I have a 5 CD collection that safisfies my AP fix. The quality of the remasters is outstanding. The care taken at the time of the initial recordings can now be appreciated. So sit back and enjoy.

Great compilation from two geniuses! Love it!

I've listened to Alan Parson for many years, I just didn't know it. I realized it when I recently saw the Alan parson Live band. I not only knew nearly all of the songs, I loved them. The problem is that a lot of Alan Parson music is long and does not get air play on a lot of stations. So the radio is not the place to look for Alana Parson music, this set of three CD's is a good place to start

This import entry into Sony/BMG's "The Essential Colletion" series is not necessarily better than 1997's  The Definitive Collection , it just has more songs. It would've been great if they had merely added a disc's worth of songs to that already excellent collection, but in fact, this collection is missing a total of ten songs from that one, including the tracks "(The System Of) Doctor Tarr And Professor Fether", "Breakdown", "Pyramania" and "You Don't Believe".

I bought the imported version of this album (with 3 CDs). Trust me, it's worth it. I've got a pretty good sample of all the Parsons/Woolfson albums. It doesn't have some of the songs I liked from The Definitive Collection ("In the Real World" and "You Don't Believe"), but it does have some you wouldn't get otherwise.

Essential Alan Parsons Project is just that, ESSENTIAL. It has all the best stuff. And not just the big hits. (Not that there were that many big hits. After all, the world at large doesn't have the best taste in music and can't appreciate all the good music Alan Parsons did.)Great sound quality and all at a good price. Highly recommend this set.

My husband and I went to Alan Parson's concert in Jacksonville, FL in Feb 2013. We loved it! So even though we have records and cassette tapes, we ordered this set of CD's and we can' get enough of it...

Excellent collection of Parsons/Wolfe tunes. I have their greatest hits, volumes 1 & 2 and the Definitive Collection. This is far more superior than those other albums. Would recommend this to all Alan Parsons fans.

Dieses 3-CD-Set bietet den perfekten Überblick über das Schaffen von Alan Parson und Eric Woolfson, die zwei Masterminds hinter ALAN PARSONS PROJECT!Man könnte annehmen, dass die Songs hier gesamtheitlich weniger wirken als auf den Einzelalben, die zumeist Konzeptalben sind.Für mein Empfinden ist dies nicht der Fall! Die Klasse der Songs kommt auch auf diese Art einer Compilation voll zur Geltung und vermag voll und ganz zu bezaubern. Die Gesamtwirkung stimmt!Es gibt unzählige Best Ofs dieser Formation. Ich kann gerade diese schwerst empfehlen, denn sie ist vollständig und preislich ein absolutes Sonderangebot. Im Klang überzeugend, auch wenn nicht alle Register eines perfekten Remasterings gezogen wurden.Auch schön finde ich, dass die drei CDs in einer ordentlich robusten CD-Box ihren Platz finden, die nicht gleich beim ersten Öffnen auseinanderfällt (wie so manche Billigst-Schatulle, die heutzutage meist Verwendung findet, oder gar purer Karton... grausam und unwürdig!!). Die perfekte Compilation für ambitionierte Einsteiger oder Fans, die nicht nur das Wichtigste, sondern etwas mehr, kompakt beisammen haben möchten! Für mich ganz klar die perfekte "Best Of" dieser Ausnahmekünstler!Nachtrag Mai 2013: Dass ich diese 3-CD-Compilation in meiner Rezension als "Sonderangebot" betitelte, lag am Kaufpreis von knapp 15€ im März! Dass sich ihr Preis zwei Monate später verdoppeln würde, konnte ich nicht ahnen. Und günstiger scheint sie nicht zu werden, eher im Gegenteil...

If you don't want to buy all their albums this is the set to get. More like a box set then a greatest hits this package offers a great overview of each of their records! This 3 CD set has excellent sound and the tracks are chronological so it walks you thru there albums from beginning to end! If you are not a big enough fan for that much material there is also a two CD version, and if you want only the hits there are a number of single CD greatest hits out there!

Eigentlich wollte ich die Dreier-CD, da aber leider die Doppel- und Dreierversionen im Verkauf nicht klar gekennzeichnet sind, habe ich nur eine Doppel-CD bekommen. Sie umfasst Tracks von allen Alben von E. A. Poe bis Gaudi in chronologischer Form - was ich bei Compilations immer vorziehe - beinhaltet alle Hits sowie Albumtracks. Klar wird so auch, dass Tales... DAS klassische APP-Abum ist, die progressiven Anteile werden immer geringer zugunsten ausgefeilter Pop-Arrangements. Als Überblick völlig ausreichend, die Dreier-Version ist genauso aufgebaut, enthält aber mehr Füller. Wer tiefer einsteigen will, dem sei das Debütalbum empfohlen (eigentlich Pflichtbestandteil jeder guten Sammlung), das es in zwei Versionen gibt. Auch die zweite bis fünfte LP sind noch zu empfehlen und gibt es günstig in einer 4-LP-Box. Ansonsten ist die "Essential"-Do-CD wirklich essentiell.

Beim Sichten der Diskografie von APP hat man den Eindruck, dass es mittlerweile deutlich mehr Best-Ofs und Anthologien gibt als Originalalben.Diese Zusammenstellung auf 3 CDs lässt zunächst einmal bezüglich der Titelauswahl kaum Wünsche offen und wäre eigentlich 5 Sterne wert, zumal auch Titel aus dem ersten Album, "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" enthalten sind. Dies war vor über dreißig die dritte Langspielplatte (meine ersten beiden waren "wish you where here" and "crime of the century"), die ich mir gekauft hatte.Das MP3-player-artige Remastering von "The essential Alan Parsons Project" macht mich allerdings nicht glücklich. Der Präsenzbereich ist leicht angehoben, was zwar zu einer höheren Transparenz und Frische der Aufnahme beiträgt, so dass mehr Details als in früheren Kompilationen zu vernehmen sind. Gleichzeitig stellt sich hierdurch aber auch durchgängig ein leicht nervöser Klangeindruck ein; in den Stimmen hat man Gefühl, häufig einer leichten Übersteuerung beizuwohnen.Da Alan Parsons von Hause aus Toningenieur war und seinerzeit Meisterwerke wie "The dark side of the moon" abgeliefert hat, gibt es für dieses Remastering von mir Abzüge in der B-Note!

Why did it take me so long to discover the APP?! This is a great collection that I can't stop playing. If you're a newcomer or refreshing your collection, it's great. Buy it.
