Absolutely wonderful -- but not for everyone.
What a wonderful book. It is a simple, playful, allegorical story about the phases of life, and aging. There is very little text per page. And the pictures are large and expressive. It is comical, adorable, and exceptionally wise---but not for everyone. It is a wise and classy tale. Because it touches on a universal but difficult subject (namely, aging), it is not for everyone. In my opinion, it is an instant classic. But you want to read it first before giving it as a gift.

Gadzooks!
Charming, zany, crazy, sensible, understanding, funny, scary. Actually, it's a kid's book for adults. It's about parental reactions to raising a child and man-oh-man is it ever clever! And the illustrations are scintillating and superb, and just right! Buy it.

This is one of the best children's books there is. As much fun for parents as it is for kids and so true. You can tell I am pleased by the way I clatter my beak!

I love this book. Not sure why it went out of print. This is a great, entertaining story that makes a great gift for new parents.

Best Parent Guide ever
This book should be required reading (and re-reading) for all parents. The illustrations are also priceless. We very highly recommend this book.

This is a lovely story, written and beautifully illustrated by Quentin Blake. My son brought it home from school when he was 5 or 6 and I used to read it to him at bedtime. It is really only as he got older that I fully appreciated everything about this book. I think a lot of parents with boys might find they have a Zagazoo on their hands! It is so well-observed. It has really stayed with us over the years - we still look at each other from time to time and say our boy is being a bit Zagazoo! He's 16 now and thankfully showing signs of turning into the nice young man with perfect manners! Highly recommended by this old pelican!
