Double vinyl LP that unfortunately lacks artwork and lyrics
As for the music, this is hands down my favorite RHCP album. When I first heard it on CD back in back in 1991, I was instantly mesmerized once “The Power of Equality” opened, and I listened to the whole disc straight through reading the lyrics and staring at the cover art and photos in the CD booklet. I was sonically stunned, and overwhelmed by the lyrics... so I did what was natural and hit the play button listening to the whole disc again.BUT this is a brief review of the import double LP. Upon receiving the album, I was confused why it was light and thin. This German import is not a gatefold album. The vinyl feels to be on the light side of 180g (if that is even possible). The sound quality is very crisp and clear, and the vinyl is flat and unwarped. The big drawback is the packaging and lack of artwork. I was utterly bummed to see that the inner sleeves were plain white stock sleeves without any inner artwork beside the outer cover. This album deserves a full lyric booklet, a lyric insert, or at least lyric sleeves that are replicas of the handwritten lyrics that made up the massive CD booklet.Overall, I like this LP version because I have renewed interest in my vinyl collection, and now I finally have BSSM on vinyl. Yet I have to admit that I am confused and disappointed that the RHCP’s finest album did not get the treatment it deserved.

As Great As Ever: 2-LP Version w-out that Damn Parental Advisory Logo
An absolute pleasure to be re-united with this Beast of an album. As someone whom had listened to the Chili Peppers through-out the eighties, this album signified the point where it all not only came together, but was firing on all cylinders. Now that I am collecting vinyl, and building my dream collection (mostly vintage-jazz) it was a no-brainer that Blood Sugar Sex Magic would make the cut. I knew I needed this to be a 2-LP version with that damned 'parental advisory' logo (unlike the other one). Granted its not a gatefold, and so it's not exactly the visual presentation I vaguely remembered the CD being, but its a SOLID pressing. Glad it took a dip in price of $14 enough for me to grab it before it went back-up again. Either way, it would still be worth the money.

A Beast Of An Album
I knew I had to face this monster some day.First off, I have to put it out there, Rick Rubin is one hell of a producer. I've heard his productions from all spectrums( American Recordings , South of Heaven , Licensed to Ill ), but this album, I can truly call his masterpiece. Mother's Milk introduced me to four funky cats from LA. While production on Mother's Milk was good, Blood Sugar Sex Magik was totally something else altogether (Get the Funky Monks video and you will see why) Red Hot Chili Peppers: Funky Monks .Like all Red Hot Chili Pepper albums, Anthony was all libido (Suck My Kiss, Sir Psycho Sexy, Blood Sugar Sex Magik), but he still managed to kick out some socially conscious songs (The Power of Equality, The Righteous and The Wicked, Under the Bridge). This album also showed John Frusciante's evolution as a guitarist (all of his solos are amazing, My Lovely Man and Sir Psycho Sexy to name a few). Flea and Chad were also phenomenal. What the Power of Equality started was the coolest journey. Having become familiar with every song the only gripe I could say I have is that I felt that Sir Psycho Sexy should have been the final song instead of They're Red Hot, because John Frusciante's solo at the end of Sir Psycho Sexy made it seem like the closing credits of a movie, which made the whole album play like a movie than a collection of songs. No Chili Pepper album has come close to the beast that Blood Sugar Sex Magik is.

Best album ever
What can I say, this album is seriously the best EVER. The quality of the actual vinyl is fantastic too. Great packaging, quality press, it's worth the investment 100%

Funkylicious
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are one ecclectic hip cool band. And this is comming from someone who grew up on classic rock from the 60's and 70's. The steady bass and drumming coupled with the funky guitar licks and the varying singing/rapping vocals adds up to an excellent set. Many highlights abound ranging from the New Orleans driven Apache Rose Peacock to the politically liberal Power of the Equality to the softer tunes(Breaking The Girl, Under The Bridge, I Could Have Lied) to hard core tunes(The Greeting Song, Give It Away). I even like the speedy one and a half minute Robert Johnson cover They're Red Hot.This release isn't as melody driven as their By The Way CD. However, the funky stylings on this Blood Sugar Sex Magik release certainly can get your groove going. And that is certainly a good thing.

Punk/Funk tunes
An eclectic mix of punk, rock, soul, funk like blues tunes. Explicit lyrics indeed. So this is not recommended for young listeners unless the parents just don't care. But the music is boss! A good mix of melodic and dance tunes. This CD was given to me years ago, but with wear and tear I had to purchase another CD to abuse.

Still great after all these years
We recently started buying CDs of our favorite albums from the 1970s and 1980s. We import them into iTunes, then export them as high quality audio onto a thumb drive we carry in the car for road trips. A real bonus when you buy certain CDs from Amazon is that you can them stream them from your Amazon music account. Still great after all these years, and it was great to bring this music back into our collection.

Not as good as it should have been
This is the first Chili Peppers album I bought back in about 1993 and it's always been my favourite.I am a huge Chilis fan - I am also a bass player and have owned much of the same gear that Flea has used over the years.First thoughts are that I am a bit disappointed with the production of this vinyl. It lacks the punch and dynamics that I was expecting from such a great album. It briefly comes alive on side 3 for Naked in the Rain and also the guitar intro to Funky Monks but it's not as good as it should have been.If you want dynamics then get yourself a copy of Mother's Milk. Now that album sounds absolutely incredible and how this one should have sounded.

Great album cheap reissue!
This is a great album no doubt about. The only bad thing is that it's a cheap reissue of a classic album. No gatefold and there is no inserts either. I know there are other versions much nicer and even with coloured vinyl. The only thing is that you find this out only when get it delivered. Also there is not information if it's the most recent remastered version as the inserts are not included you can't check the credits, etc. It's a good price to a double about but is disappointing to get a 140g version with not inserts or gatefold cover. And my copy has some marks on the vinyl which crackles a bit. I might return it and I will look for another edition. I think this album deserves a mammoth box set with lots of unrealised and live tracks, etc.

One of the best albums of the 90’s with a great transfer to vinyl.
One the Best albums of the 1990’s transferred beautifully to heavy weight dual Vinyl Discs. Art work looks fantastic. Highly recommend as an essential edition to your Vinyl collection.

90's Classic
'Blood Sugar Sex Magik' completely passed me by back in 1991. I must have been too busy listening to Metallica and Nirvana. Yet the Chili's brand of sleazy LA funk rock is as powerful and intense as any grunge or metal and has also stood the test of time. Highlights are the slow-burning 'I Could Have Lied', the blistering title track and the iconic 'Under the Bridge'.

Value Vinyl Update!
Have had this album in my life since it's release in 1991. My original CD has been with me through my college days, and along with Mother's Milk, remains my favourite era of the Chili's. You don't need me to tell you there's not a duff track on show here. This double vinyl edition doesn't disappoint either and sounds fantastic on my system, the quieter tracks really shine. It was great to sit down and take the time to listen to a great album from start to finish. Great value (at £13 approx.) and well worth updating(!?) to this format. Classic.
