Uplifting and Inclusive
The Family Book by Todd Parr celebrates all kinds of families in bright, bold colors. It’s simple enough for young readers but full of heart. A great way to promote acceptance.

Great message about different types of families and amazing artistry.
This is a great book that helps children understand diversity of family. It also emphasizes that family sometimes isn’t blood related, but the family that you make of people around you. I think that the book also assist with helping me reemphasize to my children that differences and family units is a beautiful thing.

Great Book - No "Agenda", Simply Reality
This book is wonderful, and I highly recommend it. It's wonderful to have a book about families that I am comfortable reading to my son, who came into our family through adoption. So many books make assumptions about "normal" families, and this one does a fantastic job of including all families without any expectation of being "normal." This book helps to give my son a framework for understanding the world in which he lives. He will encounter friends whose families are in each of these situations. The colors are striking and fun, and my son loves to look at the pictures.I see many reviews that have trouble with the mention of same-sex parents. Evidently these parents haven't stepped outside and opened their eyes to the world around them, and would prefer to pull blinders over their children's eyes, as well. Clearly, this is a reality in the world, whether you choose to read your children a book that acknowledges it or not. If your children attend school, or leave your home, they will encounter families with two moms or two dads. No matter how hard you try to "protect" them from this reality, they will soon discover it - you may as well read this book and process this with them. (I, too, am a "religious fanatic," as one other reviewer mentioned, which is why I am a pastor of a congregation that is fully welcoming to all, and welcomes LGBTQ-identifying folks without any expectation of change. Gender and biology are never sinful. Being a part of a loving family is never sinful.)Also - no. This book does not require you to have the "birds and the bees" conversation with your kids just because it mentions same-sex parents; if your child doesn't understand how sexual intercourse between opposite gender parents works, they will not be concerned about the biology of same-sex parents birthing a child. That question simply isn't on their radar. Tell them the truth - that sometimes families are made of two moms or two dads. It's a fact. I would suspect you should have even more difficulty explaining spontaneous reproduction by a single parent? As a parent who has a child through adoption - please DO normalize families who have children without having given birth to their child.Acknowledging the world as it is is NOT an agenda. It is reality. To have not included all types of families into this book would have been a major disservice to Parr's tiny readers and their families.Kudos to you, Todd Parr.

Any Todd Parr book is on my list of fabulous
My children are teens now and while we have cleared out many of their books from younger years, any Todd Parr book is left on our shelves. They are so sweet and full of love. They teach children that family is different, life is wonderful and everyone is different but loved. As far as other reviews assuming that children will ask how two mommies or two daddies can have a family....don't worry, i have read this to my children and nieces and nephews and never ONCE has this subject come up. My children were in parochial school and in the kindergarten class it simply brought up great conversation of how different their families were. It teaches love and that families may look different but it's ok because ALL families are different -some families have dogs, some families have allergies, some families all wear glasses....it was about how great it is that we accept differences. ALL of Parr's book teach peace and love and the wonderment of a child's love to read and hear about hope and acceptance.I like to think that Parr's books have helped shape my kids, whose generation is open and accepting and look beyond judgement. If this book or any of Parr's book bring up wonderment question from your child, any good child psychiatrist would tell you to ask the perfect question "what do you think?" Listen to their amazing and wonderful answer and cherish them for their view of the world and learn.......

Missing one type of family but great book!
My 3.5 year old daughter started questioning why her dad and I don’t live in the same house like her best friend’s parents. So I got this book to help her understand that families come in all shapes. I found that it’s missing saying that some families have two parents who live in different houses. So I crossed one of the pages that says some families have one parent instead of two (which I do not like the sentence anyways - it makes it sound like one parent is less than two parents). It’s a ggood great book and my daughter spent days wanting to read it and asking to read it again 2-3 times. Recommend.

Such a great book!!
I was a little hesitant to buy this book at first after reading another reviewer’s post + photo of the page comparing a dark skinned couple as “looking like their dogs…” ugh. But I decided to give it a chance, thinking I would just change the wording on that page with a permanent marker. BUT GOOD NEWS - that page doesn’t exist! They must have removed it or switched it out or something. This book is great at highlighting the diversity among different families and family members in a fun and playful way. We got it bc we’re looking to adopt and wanted to start reading it to our current little one (plus the new little one when he/she gets here), but honestly this book is great for any and all kids regardless of your family situation! The illustrations are so fun and colorful.
