However, it would have been perfect if color sketches and drawings were included. Hornet CV-8 operated in a B&W world so seeing ship in color drawings would have been great. If you're considering this book for building models, it's not helpful for color references.

I met 8 of the Doolittle Raiders back in 2006. I have a 1/200 scale model of the USS Hornet to build. This will help.

Great book, great pics but no color drawings
Valuable reference and loads of great photos all in one place. However, it would have been perfect if color sketches and drawings were included. Hornet CV-8 operated in a B&W world so seeing ship in color drawings would have been great. If you're considering this book for building models, it's not helpful for color references.

fantastic photographs, a bit short on written text/history

Some plans of the ship would not have gone amiss. These might have replaced a couple of pictures of Hornet in her death throes; there are more than enough of these. I've doffed a star in protest.
