Q: If the black ink cartridge is out will it print in other colors?

There is only one cartridge–at least I only have one color–black. I don't think it comes in other colors, but I could be wrong. I don't print out every day, so one cartridge lasts me about a year. Three to an order will last me about three years. Sooo affordable and efficient. I love this printer!

some HP tech says HP 1012 is supported in Windows 8.1 via in os. Plug Printer into the computer via USB cable and the drivershould load. I went on the internet to figure this one out. I personally do not know.

Q: can an iphone print from this printer ?

The HP 1012 printer does not have WiFi or Bluetooth capabilities, therefore you cannot print directly from your iPhone over the air. The HP 1012 is a monochrome laser printer that connects to your computer with a USB cable only. This is a really good printer, albeit old. I've had this printer for close to 20 years and it is still going strong.

It will work with both systems. I downloaded the firmware from HP's website
