Mastering AP Modern World History: A Skills Guide for Teachers (and Students) Paperback – 28 July 2019

I was a first year WHAP teacher last year and used the second edition of this book for so many ideas and classroom activities. It’s been updated for the 2020 course, with plenty of new questions more suited to the revisions. It helped me find my way with the practicality of delivering the course, and provides students and teachers with scaffolding for the various question types, as well ideas on course planning. It was one of my ‘go to’ planning books for lesson activities last year, and this edition will surely serve the same purpose for the upcoming academic year. Well worth the money, with loads of questions for practice and review.

In the Spring of 2018, an announcement was made that sent shock waves through the AP World History teaching community. The course, which previously covered over 10,000 years of human history, was to be cut in half with a new start date of 1450 c.e. Eventually, after a widely publicized protest and press campaign, the start date was pushed back to 1200 c.e. Other changes included a new theme, revised key-concepts, and streamlined/simplified layout. While the course had been modified before, these latest changes were arguably much more drastic and transformative.Unfortunately, many textbooks and preparation guides have simply "chopped off" the first half of their books and repackaged them for the new, modified course. This skills guide is NOT one of those. While some things have carried over from the previous edition, the authors have added tons of NEW examples and practice documents in order to properly reflect the 1200 c.e. start date and streamlined key-concepts. It also includes examples to help teach the "Technology" theme and other revisions.AP World history instructors have already spent countless hours reworking many of their lessons and activities. This book has done that difficult and time consuming task for us. And it is still the most effective guide to teach writing skills. For experienced and novice instructors, this is a must-have guide!

I received my copy today. I’ve been teaching WHAP for seven years and the constant changes are frustrating. I’m glad I waited for this resource before starting to plan for this years changes. Many of my students start the class knowing how to write the essays. However, 1/3 need to be taught from scratch. This resource is a total time saver! This will be my go for writing prompts this year and I will use the helpful wording practice for my students who are new to AP.

If you are a new teacher like me, you need this book! It’s all the skills for the test that I was most nervous about. They break it down and then have the students practice the skills. 100% recommend! My history department liked it so much they've been asking for the same book for each different AP History class! If you teach AP World History, this is a must-have resource for teaching the writing skills necessary for course and AP exam success. The book includes detailed instructions for teachers on how to teach essay skills and numerous activities. I highly recommend it!

Great resource for teaching the skills to be successful in AP World History. I am new to teaching the course, but I think I would still love this resource just as much even if I was a veteran of the course!
