A better way to navigate the settings of your Radio
A much easier to use guide for your Icom radio. Find stuff quickly instead of using the owners manual. This is my 2nd Radio Today book.

So much better than ICOM manuals
I have an IC-7610 and bought the book for that radio and it made learning the radio so much easier. When I got an IC-9700 I was having difficulty just trying to save memory slots. While I did figure it out I also purchased this book. It showed me three different ways to save memories. This book is far better than any ICOM manual I've ever seen. If you have this radio this is a great reference book to keep in the drawer next to the radio.

The book that should have been in the box
This is *NOT* a book about antennas, and there are no calculations, complex or otherwise, within. This book, like the author's previous two books are task-oriented user-guides to guide the owner to better understand the various advanced functions of the radio, in addition to 'how to' instructions for configuring the radio for various modes of operation (RTTY, FT-8, etc). There was a series of computer books from another publisher that had the tag line 'missing manuals: the book that should have been in the box' - that's exactly how I feel about this book, it should have been in the box with the radio.Ken, N2VIP(Ham for 22 years)

IC-9700 Book
This is a very good instructional book. I was going to buy one of these radios and wanted to know more about it before I placed the order. Placed the order yesterday.

Absolutely Essential Book to have for the IC-9700
This is the book that should have been included with the IC-9700. The manufacturer's owners manual is detailed, but difficult to follow. Andrew Barton (author) makes the identification, functions and purposes of the radio features easy to follow, much like any amateur radio operator would normally use the radio. This is an essential reference for the IC-9700, and very well priced. I highly recommend the book.

The book is friendlier than the manual.
The Radio Today guide to the Icom IC-9700: I'm a casual portable contester, exclusively on simplex phone. I bought the IC-9700 for SSB on the 1.2GHz band. And the extra output power on 2m/70cm was an added plus. So, most of the radio is overkill. The manual is daunting. I get by with the Nifty Guide. And it's good to have the Radio Today volume as a backup in-depth reference in case I accidentally push the wrong button & lock myself into a mystery mode.

Well written and immediately useful
This book quickly became a vital part of my IC-9700 set up. I had it spiral bound so it sits flat and I can follow the book step by step. It seems clear that the author has tried everything he has written. This radio and the IC-705 (I bought that book too) are very complex radio that have a number of functions. I'm sure it was a lot of work and I sincerely appreciate that effort. Every IC-9700 owner needs this book! 5 stars!

Essential Reading for IC9700 users
ZL3DW's books are essential reading if you own IC-9700, IC-7610 and/or IC-7300. I own the first two and have both guides. If I owned a 7300 I would have that guide, as well. These guides provide the essential bridge between the OEM manuals and your practical operating experience. They are well laid out, covering all aspects of radio controls and interfaces, settings, and operating details. They also include key information you may need to interface with common PC applications. If you have one of these radios, get the book.
