Best quality stone at under $40 per stone. This set should cost twice what it does for the quality.
The stones are oversized which is helpful, and the set has the three stones that anyone would want for a basic set, plus a stone to level any grooves made in the sharpening stones. Coarse for a damaged blade, medium for general sharpening and a fine stone for finishing. I had no trouble with the stones slipping once I had aquired some technique. Each stone has a rubber gasket that locks it into the wooden base, and the base has a rubber matt on its bottom to keep it from moving too much. This is my first foray into the world of stone sharpening. I watched several YouTube how-to videos and this product specifically was compared to a more expensive glass backed stone (industry high quality standard) that is 5x more expensive. This product was shown to be reasonably comparable, though not as good as the most expensive stone on the market, as expected, but it wasn't far behind in quality. For a beginner like me, or a thrifty person, this proves how good of a value this stone is and that it is a good stone for someone who wants a functionally sharp knife for the kitchen. I was able to sharpen my knives (one of which had the tip dull to the point of a table knife) to razor sharpness and I was able to slice a piece of paper with just the weight of the knife quite easily when I was done. My knives cut like new (high quality wustoff knives that are now 10 years old) and I was able to learn the basics of the technique very quickly after an hour of watching youtube and practicing with my cheapest knife. I'm very satisfied with this product. For reference, I cook 4 days a week on average, from scratch, so i am constantly chopping something and I know what a good knife should feel like when it cuts through something.

Great purchase!
Works great! Only improvement would be a better holder for the stones.

Use them correctly for getting super sharp knives
This isn’t the cheapest or the most expensive sharpening stone set, but I found it meets my needs quite well. You get three different stones of increasing fineness (400, 1000, 6000 grit), a much smaller stone that is used to level out the surface of the wet stones after they’ve been used multiple times, a bamboo stone holder, and some rubber bottom pieces for the 3 sharpening stones (which I use when in the bamboo holder as well as when keeping the stones out to dry after use. They work well if used properly (set comes with instructions). My pocket knife is now the sharpest it has ever been!

Take your chisel and plane blades to razor sharp
You can use this set to sharpen really dull blades an chisels by working through the grits, or just use the 6000 grit before each use for a razor sharp hone. I haven't tried it on a knife blade yet, but I expect the results will be just as good as I have gotten on my chisels and plane blades.

almost what I expected for the money, but they do a much better job than cheaper stones
On arrival, the tips of some corners were very slightly broken. This wasn't a major problem, as it's only very slight chipping, but it's a thing. The 6000 grit stone was slightly pitted on the surface, not enough to affect use, but again it's a thing, the 1000 grit stone is clearly cut a little wrong, it is slightly corrugated on one side, and a little convex on the other. It still did a decent job like that, as I didn't really notice until I'd started using it, but I'd be annoyed if I was trying for high precision and needed to flatten it that much out of the box, also it's really hard to see until there's slurry. I'm sure it'll flatten out in no time with a flattening stone. The biggest qualm I have is that they are not 1 inch thick. They're 3/4" thick. this is plenty big enough for value and I suspected from the pictures that it would be the case, but still not quite as advertised. The 400 grit stone took a little bit of use to actually start cutting properly. it came very smooth on top and didn't really bite in. luckily my first couple of knives didn't really need the 400 stone anyway. the 1000 stone had this issue too but to a lesser extent. the 6000 one cut well right away. once they were all going properly they cut quickly enough for the price: I'd expect better of a high-end stone for sure, but I'm satisfied with this performance for the money, and they do a fine job in the end. Certainly better than the cheap Chinese stones I had before (maybe some diminishing returns there already, but I'm happy) The stones appear to actually be the rating they say, unlike some cheaper ones. Apparently these are splash and go stones, not that it said that anywhere, but a short submersion didn't hurt them (so far, they aren't dry yet. The included nagura is really more a cleaning stone than a flattening stone: it'd need to be bigger to actually get them flat, but it saves buying one of those separately and it's clearly what's in the photos. The base fits snugly and the stones don't move in it, though it doesn't grip well on a wet Formica benchtop. I expect using less water will help prevent this issue and it grips very well to the dry bench. I'm not unhappy overall, but realistically if there's a next time I'll spend a little more and get some better stones. That's a reasonably big if though, they'll do the job for the foreseeable future.

i never used that, for starter. i allways wanted a knife sharpner... but after looking up a video with a pro cook, i found out that my "sharpning rod" is not a sharpening tool, its a realignment tool used between each usage... in his video, he demonstrated how to use those stones, so i cliced on the link in his video, and made sure i looked for peeble, because there are other likewise... and ordered that kit... i have no experience using these stones... and therefore wasnt expecting much from my skill, BUT i actualy got suprised... took verry DULL knife, 10$ each... 4 of them... different size... used the 3 stones... water, etc... and i was able to cut fresh herb without having crushed them, sliced through potatoe without hassle, sliced onions like it was butter... those stones has just changed my world. thanks!

Took a while to decide on which whetstone kit to buy, but was swayed by the excellent reviews this product received. I can confirm that this is an excellent product. On my first attempt I was able to put an exceptional edge on my much used filleting knife (and yes, it did cut slivers off a single sheet of paper, much to my surprise!). Most importantly, I have been able to maintain this degree of sharpness with two or three gentle strokes on my steel, and that is a real bonus. If you are considering purchasing this sharpening kit, do not hesitate. It is an excellent product.

I spent more time flattening the stones than I did sharpening because the stones hollow out very quickly. The stones work, but these are the slowest set of whetstones I’ve ever used. Waste of money, waste of time.

the stones work you just need to buy a flatening stone to keep them flat and working properly
