Uniden Bearcat PC78 Elite 40-Channel CB Radio

This is a good solid radio with all the expected features. I'm really glad to see they put the RF gain knob on this one. This is something I'm sure you'll find very useful once you've used it a little. It allows you to (in a way) turn the noise that is the squelch down to nothing, but when someone who is a ways away, says something, you'll be able to hear them and then respond. To use this feature keep the squelch knob turned all the way counter clockwise and adjust the RF gain knob to where there is little or no noise. If you've never had this function before, I think you'll really like it.Being able to check the weather any time is also really nice. I've never had this before, and I really like it, although I'm not sure this couldn't cause some kind of interference, by basically having two radios in one unit. I keep this turned off on the station selector knob when not in use.Any Uniden I've ever owned over the past 18 years has been just a good solid radio. And when it comes time to turn it up, I know I'll be able to go into to my favorite radio shop and they'll have all the room they need to make it do anything I need.

Has microphone gain control, sounds great transmitting or receiving (we have performed tests.) I measured the power out at an honest four watts on a tuned antenna with a $350 commercial wattmeter. Large built-in speaker, ergonomically designed microphone. Downside - this dude is large, very good radio if you can handle the size.Update 6/25/2013:Been using the radio on the trails and it is working extremely well - very, very pleased. Audio quality receiving and transmitting is extremely good. Also I found the integral SWR/watt meter to be reasonably accurate, it's a good indicator of what's going on with your antenna.

Radio works great including clear reception, when nobody talks, there is little to no static. Only thing lowering from 5 stars was uniden not honoring rebate. They claim no upc included, no way to prove them wrong, my loss.

Poor reception then totally stops working except weather channel at 7 months.Factory replacement has noticeably better reception for CB and weather with powerful public address sound.

Excellent cb- radio for the money. The reciever is verygood and quiet to boot. The radio did well in everycategory. Tranmitting long distances with good contactresponce, even in bad conditions. Voice clairity is fineto very fine in all kinds of noisey conditions. The wx,weather-band is cool too. You can always get a weatherreport when you need it. It has weather alert too! The cblooks like a very sophisticated electronic componet, andreally is. Uniden has scored big with this unit. I justcant say enough about this radio, fantastic! Tim Stracka.

I bought this CB to use in by RV. The weather feature is a must for those on the road. I am looking forward to many years of use.

This is a nice radio its basicly a Cobra 29 in disguise both are made from the same manufacturer only difference is i think the Unidens face plate and color scheme is better looking. Now the day i recieved it i took it to a local shop had my guy tune and tweek it added a RFX-75 preformance final and now it kicks out 14.5W dead key and 90W PEP she's now a talkin mobile!

Works great for the price. The only thing you need to do is buy a good antenna with a build in amp.
