Best On Demand coffee maker
I have only owned this a month but am thrilled with this coffee maker. I previously owned a Hamilton Beach BrewStation and it ran well for me for about 4 years before it died. The new BrewStations are designed horribly, why they chose to reinvent the wheel when it already worked is beyond me, but they lost my business. I looked at the Cusinart Brew on Demand and that is not built like a cusinart. It has cheap plastic parts including a horrible design for the water reservoir that is a cheap plastic lid that pulls up and folds over to fill with water. Looks like it would snap off in a month if you weren't careful. I settled on the Krups even though it was the most expensive model of the three. I made the right decision so far.It looks great on the counter, a piece of art, if that can be done for a coffeemaker. I've read some of the reviews on this site for it and couldn't agree with much of what they say. It is well designed and holds just as much coffee as any other coffee pot. In fact it holds exactly 60oz of water to brew. Filling the reservoir is easy unlike what one reviewer says. They must be blind to not see the marker in the front. Yes , I could see how it would be hard to see if you shoved this under your cabinet but really why would you. This coffee pot deserves to be centered in the kitchen. The lid opens easily with a push of the button and opens all the way manually. Not that hard to figure out. It has a spot on the left side for a charcoal filter. One review said they couldn't see the coffee thru the window, I disagree. It's a stainless steel container with the heat plate for it on the outside not the inside like the BrewStation. It has a plastic window and looks like it's built well. I have had no issues with staining so far because I scrub mine each time before I use it again. Coffee is black and is easy to see thru the window. The ledge that your cup sits on works great and is easy to change levels at will. One review complained about the size of cups for small and large buttons. They must not have read the directions. After you turn it on and brew a pot, when you first pour a cup place the smallest coffee cup you drink out of and push the small button and hold it until it pours to the point you want it to fill up to and let the button go. From then on every time you push the small button it will pour a cup exactly that amount every time. It has a scale in it that knows by weight how much coffee you are filling up with. Then place your smallest to go thermos for your car and fill up with the large button the same way. Now you have the perfect cup for at home and on the go. As for clearance under the spout, you have 7 inches of space at the lowest setting of the ledge. And if the ledge is removed you can lean a cup against it that is up to 8 1/2 inches tall. There are 3 levels to set the ledge at.As for those asking about gold filters, I use one in mine that is made by mr coffee and it works great and fits perfectly. I bought it at Target, oops sorry amazon, and it was the same one I used in my BrewStation. Just has to be the flat bottomed kind and not the cone. Another nice feature is the heat plate setting. You can set it to keep your coffee hot for 1, 2, 3 or 4 hours. As most pots are automatically 2 or 4 hours its nice to be able to set it to your personal choice. Another note to it is the brew head is nice and large to shower water on the grounds as opposed to the cusinart which was quite small. It brews a pot in about 7 minutes and have had no issue with temperature. The coffee is hot, not McDonald's coffee hot, but who honestly enjoys coffee that hot. It is not lukewarm as one reviewer claimed, unless of course they like scalding hot boiling liquid coffee then I could see how it would be perceived as lukewarm. All in all a great coffee pot so far and the best one I've purchased and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a no mess coffee maker. Well worth the money and hope to enjoy years of use.

Hot and cool...with a drop of criticism...
FOLLOW UP - UPDATE - We have now had this unit for more than a year. No issues at all. It works well and makes great coffee. I still have suggestions for improving this unit, but have not seen anything better available. I am available for design consultation when it is time for a redesign!******In the spirit of full disclosure, I am a bit of a nut job. Not crazy, but particular (the nicest way my wife can describe me). I am not a coffee snob but like strong coffee. My wife is an entertainer....I mean she likes to entertain. And this coffee maker actually has entertainment value AND makes pretty good coffee. In the spirit of succinctness (not my strong point) let's go with pros and cons.Pros:Good strong coffee - I do use a little extra coffee with this maker to make it strong, but it is tasty. I ran a few carafes of water through it initially.Brews quickly - If you have "need for speed" (seems like an issue to need caffeine in a hurry...) this brewer is pretty good. Our Bunn was faster, but I prefer the design of this unit.Hot coffee - Coffee is dispensed at a great temp. Not lawsuit hot, but not tepid. (I feel like Goldilocks..with male pattern baldness)Cool dispenser - the cool factor on this unit is the dispenser. I was a little surprised when assembling and using this unit for the first time...It pumps the coffee back up a tube attached to the carafe so it will stream into your cup. You press a button, there is a little whirring noise, and out flows the coffee.Hands free (OK this is my favorite feature..the cool factor)- You can preset 2 cup sizes to autofill. Stick your cup in, press a button and walk away... but you won't... you will stand there mesmerized by the stream of coffee shooting into the cup...watching it get higher... and higher...waiting for (much like Nascar, gymnastics and ice skating fans)..the spill. But it stops. And then you wonder why you did not trust it. Anyway, it is cool, and it works. The only downside to this feature is that you actually have to read the instructions to figure out how to adjust the cutoff to the cup size you want to save. And no, a "cup" is not a standard size...I have no idea where the 8oz myth started, but a "cup' is most closely akin to "about a mile down the road" in directions. So set this unit for a large cup and a smaller cup and use that same shape/size cup...or you will get the tragic spill you were eagerly watching for a few seconds earlier.Workmanship - the materials and workmanship are really pretty good. Heavy duty stainless steel "carafe" inside. (don't get anxious you carafe haters..it holds the hot coffee for pumping and is removable for cleaning) The shelf that holds the cup (while in "handsfree" mode) seems less sturdy when raised off the lowest level. It has plastic clips/slots that you hang the shelf on if you use smaller cups. But so far this has not been an issue. Perhaps if you use cups made of lead (in which case you may no longer able to read this review) or you live in a "Waffle House" kind of kitchen environment that involves slamming dishes and cups around in a frenetic manner (I do like their breakfasts) there might be an issue with longevity of the shelf. But it seems fine if you just set a cup on it.Well so much for succinct --- I recommend this thing... But I'll point out some flaws in the forlorn hope that there is a coffee brewing engineer perusing reviews to make the perfect next gen brewing device...Cons:1. You do get drips from the plastic filter holder - fairly significant drips -I'd guess the steam from the coffee condenses around the outside edges of the filter holder, but does not all drip back down into the carafe. But don't worry, you will not need the big yellow plastic "Slippery when wet" caution signs for your kitchen. Just hold the filter holder over the carafe when you are removing both to empty and clean.2. Empty and clean - you should plan to remove the carafe to empty it and rinse it out. I grew up in Alabama, but despite that I still like to keep a clean trailer, I mean house...The carafe design includes the "pump" mechanism. And it holds a small amount of coffee in it...even after you dump it. So rinse it an couple of times and you will see the coffee rinse out of the nozzle3. The timer is great (how long the coffee has been sitting) but for us the angled display is not ideal since we have the coffee maker elevated higher than countertop height. Probably not an issue for most...but "we have a coffee bar"(said in the tone of Thurston Howell III)4. Price - I like this device...but I'd like it more for $50 less....But I don't regret my purchase after 8 weeks.I could go on, but I'd need to sell this as a 99 cent Kindle book. Buy it, wow your friends and enjoy the holidays! Merry Christmas!

Brilliant at what it does
Came from a Keurig machine that had eventually broke down. Decided to return to a basket filtered coffee maker for the practicality and the odd chance I may need to make more than a single serving. This machine does multiple cups along with a single cup. (avoid buying paper filters and get a reusable metal basket from Walmart). I like the height adjustable coffee cup tray; no more having to prop up short cups underneath the spout to avoid splashing. It can also accommodate tall travel mugs.Heats up very quickly; haven't actually timed it, but seems to be ready in 4 minutes or less using cool water. Your mileage will vary depending on the temperature of the water that goes in of course.Product is well made and solid. Takes up little space on a counter-top when compared to similar machines. Feels out of the way when not being used.Have had this product for over 6 months now and have zero problems or issues with its functionality. Pricey but you get what you pay for.

KRUPS experience #hashtag fail !
received the coffee on demand model, worked great for about two weeks. Motherboard failed several weeks after purchase. In for repairs - motherboard will take 2 to 4 weeks. I have company, and have had to rely on Starbucks and other coffee companies for weeks. Not Impressed !

Great buy
We were in need of a new coffee maker as I'd broken our old Krups carafe while cleaning (great reason to remind me NOT to clean!) We'd really liked the Krups we had so new we'd be going with another version. (Un)fortunately there were more options to choose from. decisions decisions. This dispenser peeked my interest as 'did we really need a carafe'? This was the same brand, wattage and similar look to our old one. So we gave it a whirl but I kept the packaging just in case. We're very happy with it. Some reviews said it's difficult to poor the water in, I don't find it any different in fact I find the removable well easier to pour than our old carafe. The coffee is the same and stays hot for hours - if you manage to leave coffee in for that long.I would recommend this to any coffee lover. We pair it with the Krups burr grinder which has been going strong for 8~ years.

Not worth the money,
I purchased this product 4 months ago and conclude it is highly overpriced for what you get and the coffee is no better than my old Melitta. It delivers hot coffee and keeps it hot (I drink my coffee black) but it is very noisy. The selection buttons for pouring small or large amounts is unreliable. When I press for a large cup, it pours a small one which may be adequate for a demitasse espresso or Turkish coffee so I must keep my finger on the manual button to fill my mug. The basket filter is a huge disappointment and a poor design; coffee that has not filtered through remains in the filter with the grinds.
