Trees: Revised and Updated (A Golden Guide from St. Martin's Press)

I remember this from my childhood!
I was looking for a guide to trees when I remembered this series from my childhood. We had all of the Golden nature guides and I wish I still had them all! Despite more comprehensive and larger books being available, I opted for this one for several reasons. First, its size: it is really easy to carry with you without adding extra weight while you're walking or hiking. Second, it's extremely easy to use; the book begins with a key based on leaf shape which then directs you to the correct pages where you can find the specimen you are looking for. Third, it has the original illustrations which I love because of the bucolic scenes. True, photos or more scientific drawings might be helpful, but these pictures made me enjoy looking at trees! It does not contain every tree. I'm not certain why certain trees are left out, but I THINK it might leave out trees that are not native to North America. For example, I could not find the yew tree-- a common enough tree but not native to the US. That's just a guess though.Great book for kids OR adults. I love the whole Golden series!

Great book
This is a updated version of a book that I have from the 1950’s. Like the original it’s a great book and maintains its place of honor on my cars dashboard.

Very Informative Book
This book helps identify types of trees in the US. It is a good book to have on your phone to help you identify trees while traveling or anywhere you go. The only downside I see is that I would like a very expanded version.

Perfect Little Field Guide
This book is an excellent field guide, as is the rest of the Golden Guides. I carry this on me when I'm in the field at work for quick identification of species. While it is a smaller book and does not have an extensive amount of information on each species, it has just enough to know what you are looking at in the field so you can research at a later date, saving you from lugging a huge identification key around.

Good reference
I absolutely love everything about this informative little book, except that it doesn't have a picture/drawing of what the bark looks like. My favorite part is that it has a map showing where each tree grows in the US. It is small enough to put in your back pocket when in the woods too.

Needed this to indentify some trees on my property
I was brought up in the great state of MD most of my life, however, over a decade ago I relocated to the Southern Highlands of southwestern NC. On my property, there are some species of trees that I was not familiar with, so I purchased this 'pocket' book [I remembered it from my youth] and it has been a invaluable resource to me for indentification. The hand-generated color pictures and maps are wonderful; the text is easy-to-read as well.

Ever Wondered About That Tree With The Fluffy Flowers?
This book covers all the basic tree types you are likely to run across anyplace but a botanical garden. The illustrations make it easy to identify your mystery tree by leaf type or flower type, and sometimes even bark appearance. It doesn't have EVERY tree you are going to see as it doesn't deal with foreign imports but it should cover just about every tree you are going to see just driving down a road or in someone's yard.

Pictures of the leaves.
Lots of great coloured pictures of the many types of tree leaves, acorns, and a few of some tree bark. Also includes explanations of each. A great small book to put in your backpack or a bigger pocket. Well worth the price.
