Simon & Schuster Mega Crossword Puzzle Book #20 Paperback – September 1, 2020

I’ve bought these books for years because the puzzles are challenging but do-able and it will take you a while to finish this book. Puzzles and clues are a decent size to read, and the puzzles get longer as you move through the book. I just have to be sure I remember which ones I’ve completed!

Crossword puzzles are proven to improve brain function, memory, and knowledge. It's like a Jeopardy round on paper with subjects like: geography, literature, history, science, sports, movies, tv, food, politics, pop culture, etc. There's also the satisfaction of finishing one (answers are in the back just in case!) Each book has 300 puzzles, keeping you busy every day for nearly a year. I've ordered 22 of them over the years. True story.

I love working these crossword puzzles on real paper instead of on my computer screen. It's relaxing to sit in my porch swing and alternately doze off and then have to recall a word to plug in. The pages are perforated so you can easily tear them off as completed. I've gone through most of this series and always find it interesting how some of the themes change with our changing times.

This is my 4th book in this series and a great way to kill time and exercise ones brain in a safe way during the COVID Epidemic. Unfortunately the more recent versions do not seem to be as well edited as the older version, and sometimes appear to have nonexistent words or inaccurate clues which should have been taken out or corrected. I think this what happens when one of the puzzle creators paints themselves into a corner with the words and clues that they use to create the larger puzzle theme.

These puzzle books are one of my favorite pastimes. The difficulty level is just right for me. They are printed on good quality paper, so they are easy to write on. The pages are not like newspaper. I don't like books with that kind of paper. These are the same as a good-quality printer paper, probably 24# or better. Ink doesn't bleed through the pages, and pens/pencils don't tear or emboss the paper.
