Easy enough to move the circuit board from the old key fob to the new. Hardest part was opening the old key fob. Just be patient, take your time and you can get it open. I wondered why everyone said be careful not to cut yourself and they are right. The way the fob is shaped makes it hard to hold while cutting along the seam. Also note, You don’t want the box cutter going too far into the remote and hitting the circuit board. I kept going over the edge until I finally felt my blade break through then I knew how deep I needed to go around the rest of the fob. Once I got it released enough I was able to easily pry it open and remove the circuit board. I didn’t change the battery as it’s still good. And yes I did use a butter knife to pry it open. :) I like to fix stuff that my hubby doesn’t have time to do and I’m proud that I was able to accomplish this in about 30-45 minutes. All in all great price and happy with the results!

Overall this is a great product for the price. I did have an issue with original cut key not locking in the fob (you tell a difference in the notches on the keys). This is a major issue since this could result in the fob sliding off and loosing it, and I've only ever had one fob for my Mini. The solution was to either have the blank cut for my car or file part of the fob that the key goes into until the key locks and swapping the original locking mechanism into the new fob. I opted for the 2nd option and very carefully filed the fob. Another option would be leave the original cut key at home and carry the blank in the fob. I personally wouldn't want to do that, but it is an option.

I don't know who thought this would replace the case on a 2010 Mini because as soon as I took it out of the wrapping I knew it wouldn't work. The problem is the battery placement. The original has a battery compartment on the opposite side of the buttons such that you can replace the battery without prying the case apart. This replacement case has the battery INSIDE the case AND it's on the button-side of the circuit board. No possible way for the battery to make the proper connection to the circuit board, and no possible way to close the case if the circuit board is present and the battery is installed. I'm an electronics engineer and this case is NOT the same as my original.

Update 8/5/2023 The vendor sent me a replacement key fob which has the recessed area for the factory decal. Awesome support and updating to 5-stars! Original review This way used to replace the factory key fob for a 2010 Mini Cooper S. Circuit board fit well and the buttons matched the factory switches. That said, the key fob does not match the one displayed in the ad. The key fob I (originally) received did not have the recessed area for the factory decal. Not a deal-breaker for me, but others may feel differently.

ALSO DOES NOT COME WITH A THE MINI SYMBOL!!! Was not made for my specific key. nowhere in the ad does it state that there might be a fitment issue. My key doesn’t have a rechargeable battery. My key fob has the replaceable 2032 battery. Although it wasn’t the correct shell, my key fobs only issue was that one of the buttons was missing so with a razor blade and a dremel tool I was able to cut off the necessary plastic and glue one the top part of the case with the bottoms attached. There are no rules and I would have made a huge mistake of throwing away a very very small piece of silicon that is used as a ¿button? For the physical key release. I had to Frankenstein half of the parts from the original and half of the new perece. It now looks like new except the buttons are different shapes and styles and only the le know how long they will be visible. Comes with two chrome rings that are easily interchangeable so that’s a plus. Also I had the original logo so I was able to swap and glue it into the new front half of the case.

This is not really a key! It is just the case for the MINI key circuit board. The dealer wanted $400 for my MINI Series II key fob from my 2010 Cooper that had run out of battery after 10 years. I dissected the old key fob, and gently removed the circuit board. I then sent everything to Juniper at IRepair in Gunnison CO, and for $40 she soldered in a new battery (obtained from Amazon for $10). I saved $350 and the embarrassment of being screwed by the MINI dealer. Wonderful!

Works great and saved us a lot of money. My hubby set it up easily.

Part was exactly like OEM part. Circuit board fit well.

My Mini Cooper fob was falling apart, so I bought this replacement part. It was easy to install. The buttons work fine, and the fob fits into the ignition. This was a lot cheaper than paying the dealer $385 for a new fob. Even if this wears out in a year, or so, it is a bargain.
