Awesome cookbook
There are tons of pictures and easy to read instructions. Only wish they had a few more recipes but it’s nice and authentic.

Fairly Pleased
Good Recipes but no Barbeque Spareribs, I couldn't believe that. I still kept the book for the pictures, and ease of recipes.

Homemade authentic Chinese food
Excellent authentic recipes with "easy" ingredients nothing strange or difficult to obtain. So far the recipes that I have made turned out just like from a restaurant. No matter what, I never could get the authentic Chinese food taste made at home but now I can! I love this book.

So easy to use and understand
I have looked for a long time for an easy to understand simple Chinese Cookbook. This one really fits the bill. The ingredients are easy to find. Many of the recipes use the same ingredients but they all create different flavors. So far the taste of the finished product has been more than expected.

Okay, not great
I bought 3 Chinese cookbooks to help me prepare Chinese foods for my family. I bought this one, Every Grain of Rice, and a third on wok stir-frying. This cookbook is okay. We liked the Chicken Peanut Satay cookbook, but the sauce was good for 2 chicken thighs. The directions left out one of the ingredients, so you have to logically deduce when you should add it. If you place three in the bag, not enough sauce gets on the chicken. The sauce the cookbook recommends was okay, but not great. Then, I made a second recipe- the Mongolian Beef. I had pork unhand, so I made it with pork. My family really liked the recipe, but I added broccoli, carrots, and mushrooms to it. Also, I would change it next time. I wouldn't add the crushed ginger (since I use it from a convenient jar) until I add the meat--not before. When I added it before as the recipe said, it splattered everywhere and I had to wait to cook the meat until it settled down. It's not really saucy, but actual Chinese food isn't. I wouldn't double the sauce because that would be too much. I would probably give this cookbook 3 1/2 stars--marking down for the omissions and modifications I have needed to make to recipes.

As advertised; good cook book.
Receipes have clear directions, are easy to read, and cover the dishes I like the best. Glad to have it.

Simple but tasty recipes
I bought this cookbook because it had a recipe for General Tso's chicken, which my granddaughter really likes. It was a simple and straightforward recipe. I will say that the texture of the chicken was not the same as what I get from the restaurants (they must use some type of batter, rather than just corn starch), but the sauce was spot on and easy to make. My granddaughter loves it and she often asks me to make more. So far, I have only tried one other recipe, the Szechuan shrimp fried rice, which was also very good (even though I improvised because I did not have all the ingredients). I have looked over the other recipes and they likewise seem simple and doable. Over time, I hope to work my way through the book. While the recipes so far don't hold up perfectly against a very good Chinese restaurant, you can enjoy the very good quality food at home without slaving away over long and complicated recipes in the kitchen.
