Great quality
This is the best rasp that I have ever used in fifty years of woodworking. It is easy to use and very efficient. Great for many tasks. Quality is top notch. I wish that I had this years ago.

I’ve used this rasp for a while now
I do a fair amount of woodworking. I honestly believe this is one of my better rasps. Trying to round off some corners? Shinto course side knocks those edges off and the fine side works then a bit smoother. Hit it with some sand paper and you’re done.I’ve used this rasp to shape the heads of shillelaghs’s, and it works really really well.

Wood filing made easy
This rasp files down soft to medium hard woods fast. It is easy to maneuver making quick work of many filing jobs. I've used many types of wood files and this one has become my go-to for removing material quickly. I follow up with a finer file or sandpaper to get a smooth surface.

For experienced and beginners. Don’t try to muscle it.
Nice for small detail woodworking. Smooth cutting just don’t put too much pressure. And you can expect a professional finish.

Shinto 9 inch rasp
I make walking sticks and I find this rasp to be very good for roughing out nubs and bark. Not much pressure needed from me to start smoothing out. I switch to another rasp/file after the majority of the tough work is done. It's very light weight.

Highly recommend for anyone looking for rasps new or for replacing old ones
LOVE THIS THING. My bow making instructor had one and it was a joy to use, so much better than your traditional rasp (in my opinion)! My one and only complain is that it doesn't have a wood handle, but that's just because I prefer traditional looking tools and materials. Feels nice in the hand, and the 2 sidedness is great for switching between finer and rougher work.

Good option to try!
Bought this with the question in mind if it would work well for hooves, as it is made in similar style to a popular hoof rasp. Upon unpacking, the base of the rasp is a little flimsy as others said, but use straight strokes or wear gloves and brace with a couple fingers and no issues with bending sideways.Tried on my mini today. Very sharp and works very quickly. I thought the length would be right for her feet but truly I need to order an actual hoof rasp of this style which is about 4 inches longer. Overall I was able to very quickly accomplish a trim with this rasp. I could still rasp the foot away just as quick as using nippers. Very sharp so wear gloves for sure if doing hoof work.I know it doesn't matter if used for it's intended wood work, but for hoof work I decided to wet form a leather cap over the top just in case so it wouldn't jab if I slipped. But, never slipped. I will continue to use this rasp until I am able to save up for the real hoof one. Will likely keep it in my tool kit as an option for fine tuning work. This was a much cheaper way for me to find out if I would like this style rasp and the answer was yes!*Caveat : if you aren't used to handling SHARP rasps, you may feel the inclination to push down hard as you stroke. You should not have to push hard with any rasp if it is sharp, just a light pressure. If you have the habit of pressing down hard, you are too accustomed to dull tools. Pressing down hard with a sharp rasp will make it not perform well and you will get "stuck" in your stroke.

Excellent tool, nothing else quite like it
This rasp removes material cleanly and quickly, so much more efficient than a traditional file for quickly sculpting wood.
