Excellent product - full featured, and easy to use
This is a great way to sharpen your knives yourself! We used to send ours out to the hardware store, so of course we waited till they were really dull to do anything, and meanwhile struggled with a knife that didn't work very well. and we tried various handy dandy tools, but they really didn't work that well. Our son told us about using a whetstone, and I bought this one because it really had all that you need. Most importantly, it has a wide range of grits, so you can go from a really ratty old knife that needs a lot of work all the way to fine polishing of a pretty sharp knife (or just keeping your knives continually sharp). Also, all the useful tools that make it easier to use, like the wooden base, the rubber pieces that hold them in, and the angle guide. Don't be intimidated by using a whetstone - there are lots of youtube videos that help you learn at first, and once you know what you're doing, it's really easy and fast - especially to just do a few quick strokes to keep your knives continually sharp. I'd recommend this product - it's great, and, given all of the features, its a good value.

Just what I wanted
The composite materials in the stones and the different pieces included all work perfectly. The stones fit well into the wooden base though I find that the base does collect the slurry as water runs off the face of the stone while sharpening. I simply add the slurry water back onto the stone until it gets too thick and then add clean water. Overall this product was exactly what I was looking for and it exceeded my expectation. Good price and great value.

Nice set of stones at a good price
I am a novice at sharpening, but wanted a nice set of stones to get started. This is a nice set with a full range of grits. I think a good set of stones is important, but prolly more important is to get in some practice and experience in how to use them well. These have worked really well on all type of cutlery in all conditions of starting sharpness - kitchen knives, hunting knives, pocket knives, scissors. I'm still figuring out the best combinations of grit to start with and when/how to move up through to the finest stone. The base is nice and solid. There is a rubber gasket to hold the stone, but I personally found that to be a bit of a pain and not that necessary. The angle guide seemed like a nice idea, especially for a novice like me. Ultimately I did not find it to be very useful. In part because it will fit differently with different knife/blade types/sizes and also because the angle is different for each knife. I also learned that consistency on the angle is more important than the angle degree itself. I found that watching some experts on YouTube was the best way to pick up some tips and then to just dive in and start sharpening!

Excellent sharpening set. Very professional quality. Impressed!
I am so impressed by this knife sharpening set. It has everything I will ever need to keep all my knives in great cutting condition. I had never known much about sharpening knives, and after I was gifted a lovely Japanese sushi knife, I made the mistake of buying a cheapo sharpening tool at the county fair (they sure are good at selling stuff!), and when using it on my Japanese knife, I guess I held it at the wrong angle or pressed too hard, but I ground small chunks out of the blade, basically ruining it. I was heartbroken and mad at myself, because it’s such a quality knife, or was. So, I decided to not give up and to develop a more professional attitude about it. I watched hours of videos on sharpening techniques, and found how I could grind out the divots in the blade and start over from scratch. Ive done that step so far, and have gotten a basically useable blade just using the largest grit (Step One). I’m already so confident about the results that I’m fine with writing a glowing review about the set. Now I just have to complete the process with the finer grit stones knowing I will have a beautifully sharpened professional knife as good as the original. Some people might complain about the fact that it might take more than one or two strokes to make a knife perfectly sharp, but, as with anything of professional grade, if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well, and I won’t mind spending an hour if it takes that (and it won’t) to bring it back to something even a professional sushi chef would be proud of, razor sharp!Thank you for such a fine quality product.

Package arrived in a timely manner.Product has a solid base and a multiple stones option.Haven’t used a whetstone in a while but after a few passes it comes right back. This method gives you the sharpest edge you will ever get. Much better than any of those pull through sharpeners.Very nice product!

Great stone, 4 different grit levels! & extra leveling tools at a great price!
I am impressed with the quality of these stones for the price. The non slip stand and grip pad work very well and make it extremely easy to work on a small counter (like a bathroom counter which is close to a sink) the only negative thing I have to say about one of the stones is one of the corners has a small chip which is slightly frustrating but manageable. Overall I believe this whetstone kit is 100% worth the money for people trying to learn or practice their freehand sharpening skills!

Overall, good product.
Instructions aren't the best, but straight-forward enough to be usable. The guide isn't suitable for all knives but that's okay. So far no complaints about the actual product. Stones themselves seem to be of good quality. Not something I would recommend to everyone but if you're constantly sharpening knives this product is a game changer.
