Great price for a quality Schrade heavy duty knife
I was torn between this and the SCHF10 model, with the lower price and the blade style I thought I would give it a try knowing through Amazon I could always send it back and get the SCHF10. I will not be sending it back, it now has a permanent spot in my daypack as my main survival knife for that bag. Now I need a knife for my big bag, I would buy it again but I don't really want two of the same knife. Anyway all in all this is a tough knife, I would prefer a high carbon blade to the 8Cr13MoV blade but only because its easier to sharpen on anything from a river rock to an actual sharpening stone set. The MoV came pretty sharp out of the box, enough so that I don't feel the need to mess with the edge until it needs it. That's really my only real issue with the blade, while the 8Cr13MoV will hold an edge longer it will be harder to sharpen in the wild so to speak. I really like the scales, I have seen some complaints about the handles and the Jimping on the top but I found the combination of the two provide a nice, solid grip. I could see it being an issue for people with smaller hands but I find the palm swell and the rubber texture of the handle make for a nice fit in the hand, the Jimping on the spine makes a great thumb rest so no worries about slipping, and adding a lanyard to the good sized lanyard hole will definitely keep this beefy blade in its place. On to the sheath, well its close, the addition of the plastic insert to keep the blade off the nylon was a good and probably required piece. The sheath overall is a good fit for the knife but the Velcro closure is a poor retention method for most knives but with something this big I would like to see a snap closure, its really needed and moving forward I would like to see snaps for all the knives of this line. The ample sheath pocket which looks like an old school sharpening stone holder, is plenty large enough to hold a full size fire steel. Good weight, GREAT balance, solid feel, I think I will be looking for a Kydex sheath for this knife which will probably cost more than the knife did, though Amazon had the best price anywhere for this one. I would like to add a picture with the lanyard and fire steel I added but I don't see the option anymore, where did it go Amazon?

Very close to the perfect knife for me
I spend quite a bit of time on the internet web sites looking for good knives. I feel that this knife met pretty much all of the criteria I had set for what would make a good knife for my purposes. The blade is very thick, and is blackened to keep down any reflection for stealth. The blade came very sharp form the factory and I only had to touch it up a little. The grip is awesome and the TPE handle is great for when you have wet hands. It is easy to grip, with its rubbery like feel and texture, but is not soft at all. The accompanying sheath provides a pouch to add extra items like a fire starter and or kindling and a small knife sharpener, or whatever else you want to squeeze in there. The lanyard hole is great for attaching a piece of adjustable length paracord so as not to loose grip of the knife and possibly lose it. The jimping on the top and underneath of the blade makes for holding the knife at different positions so as to permit fine detail work, or for more leverage situations like when chopping etc. The knife is held in the sheath which has a plastic insert and is held in by a Velcro strap. There is only one thing I thought I would like to improve upon, so I added a snap to the Velcro strap to add an additional means of retention of the knife in the sheath. I highly recommend this knife as a survival knife, it is durable, sharp, and the size that will accommodate most things you would use the knife for in camping or bushcraft or survival. Oh, I think I forgot to mention this knife is full tang and very strongly built.

Great Knife, Outstanding Price
Just received this Schrade SCHF26. After reading many reviews of this knife I decided this is one I can use. I am not at all disappointed. It is exactly as it is described in the information provided on Amazon and in most of the reviews I read. It has a sturdy, heavy, 5.5” blade and can best be compared to a short axe. The full tang blade is 1/4 inch thick from near the point all the way to the exposed pommel which has a hole for a lanyard. The grips are a rubber like material with a patterned surface providing an excellent grip. The grips are slabs contoured to fit the shape of the handle and are held on by hex head screws. I read at least one review that said the handle/grips are large and would best fit large hands. Perhaps Schrade changed the dimensions of the grip, but the one I received has a perfectly sized grip for my average sized hand. The grips are 3/4 inches wide and 1 1/4 inches high at the center swell. I've read reviews with complaints about the grind of the edge and the grips not fitting, but that's not the case with the one delivered to me. It is well ground and reasonably well sharpened. The grips are fitted nicely to the handle. I've read other complaints about the sheath. For the price I paid I'm happy it comes with a reasonably sturdy sheath I can use until I make one out of kydex. For most who use this knife infrequently, the sheath that came with my knife will last for a long time. I'm well pleased with the purchase and would buy it again.
