Great in Smoothies
I learned about the health benefits of this "superfood" from my integrative specialist and decided to pick some up. Use google to decide if this super food is something you would like in your dietHonestly, I chose this brand because of the positive reviews and the way the bag looks (stupid- I know). I ordered through Amazon Prime and paid full price for this item.PRICE BREAKDOWN: This is 2.2 lbs of powder for $30.96 (with prime). The recommended daily amount is 1 tablespoon (15 grams). If you use one tbsp of this powder daily, it will last you 66 days. That is less than 50 cents/day. In my opinion, this is a great price to pay for the health benefits of this powder.2.2 lbs = 997 grams1 tbsp = 15 grams997/15 = 66 tablespoons in this 2.2 lb bag$30.96/66 = $0.46/tbspPACKAGING: Minus one star for the packaging. It seems as though the closing mechanism on my bag was broken from the beginning. The last 1/4 of the bag does not and has not ever closed. This bag closes just like a regular ziplock sandwich bag. Since this powder is so fine, their was powder in he box it came in. This was not that large of an issue to me, so I just decided to put this powder in a separate container of my choosing. If you do this, make sure it's airtight and stored somewhere cool and dry.TASTE: Alone, this stuff is not good. At all. It's bearable in a fruit juice, but I like to add it to a smoothie each morning. My smoothie recipe is1 tbsp Spirulina powder1 tbsp flax seeds3 apple bananas6 frozen strawberries1 cup spinach/arugula mix1/2 cup orange juiceLots of waterWhen I make this smoothie, I cannot taste the spirulina powder at all, and my smoothie has a very nice green color to it!Overall, I would recommend this product if you are looking for an easy supplement to add to smoothies or drinks.

Covered Up Document from Bulk Supplements
I ordered this Spirulina powder from Bulk Supplements and within a few days of receiving it, someone here prompted me to ask about its origin. I realized I should have inquired more about this product and where it came from, especially since there are some very BAD Spirulina products out there with dangerous additives and toxins (including but not limited to China).I wrote to the company and asked them where it was harvested from and they gave me a vague answer. When I inquired further and asked them to send me a COA (certificate of analysis, which would provide nutritional ingredients or additives during manufacture, as well as origin country) they responded with a BLOCKED out COA. Both the top and bottom of the form was covered up so that I had no way of knowing what product had been tested, when or where. This is HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS. I wrote back and complained of this, asked for a COMPLETE COA, and they finally replied back (almost two weeks later). They offered a full refund, and verified this product is made in China. However, they never explained why the covered up COA and even responded as if this was perfectly normal. I have yet to receive the full, uncovered COA from them and doubt I ever will. Strange and very scary indeed.I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT nor ANY PRODUCT FROM THIS COMPANY. If your health and safety are a concern, then I would steer clear of them or any products they sell.If I hear otherwise or receive a complete COA, I will certainly update my review.BTW, BulkSupplements.com promised me a FREE product if I provided a review on Amazon. Something tells me I won't be seeing that freebie now! It would not matter as I would not be ingesting anything from Bulk Supplements until they come clean and clear with me. I was told that a complete COA for Spirulina or any supplement, would be easily acquired from a legitimate company. Therefore, you can understand why my assessment of them is not good. I am an even-keeled person with no desire to hurt anyone's reputation, but when I inquire about safety and receive a document with the vital identifying information blocked or whited out, this is a red flag. My trust in this company has flown out the window. I also do not want anyone else to risk their health, in case this red flag is accurate.UPDATE: Several months later, Bulk Supplements sent me a complete COA for their spirulina powder with sincere apologies about their "former" employee's mishandling of my order. They still have not reimbursed my money and the COA confirms that their product is harvested and tested in China. I have already found a more reliable source of quality Spirulina (Spirulina Pacifica) made by Nutrex in Hawaii.

So Green. So Very, Very Green.
BEWARE! If this is your introduction to spirulina, then you should know that this stuff is a whole new level of green. When you get this package, it will have gotten a bit shaken up in transit. That’s to be expected. There will be some spirulina powder above the ziplock portion of the bag—the part you cut off to open the bag. You’ll shake it, tamp it down, and tap it a few times to get that powder down. You’ll think you did a good job, and you’ll go ahead and cut that end section off. And you will instantly create a blue-green cloud of atomized algae that will settle on your counters, your floors, your hair, your skin—EVERYWHERE! At this point, you’ll probably tiptoe over to the sink, desperately trying not to spread your aura of verdant dander. You’ll grab a damp wash cloth. DON’T!!! This is the worst mistake you could make. As you apply the damp cloth, you will create a kind of light bluish, greenish slurry. The more you mop it up, the more you’ll spread this emerald plague. After half an hour, you’ll look around your home, which is now the color of an alien from a classic Star Trek episode, and you’ll realize that the right move would have been to grab a dry cloth and a shop vac to suck up as much of the damage as possible. If you find yourself at this point, don’t panic. Just grab some kerosene or maybe a flamethrower and torch your house. Don’t grab any belongings (you’ll only make things worse), just warn your family and/or pets, and burn that sucker down. Then toss yourself into a stream or other nearby body of water and slowly complete the transformation into the swamp creature you began as soon as the spirulina sank into your flesh.Oh, and this stuff is awesome. I use it every day in my green smoothies. I’d recommend it to anyone.
