A Good toaster is hard to find
You may not be interested in researching toasters. Growing up we had great toasters. They did a reasonable job of toasting bread, and lasted for decades. When I started out on my own, I had the perfect toaster. Made by a German company, it used quartz infrared lamps instead of Nichrome wire coils. It may have lasted for decades, but my children accidentally damaged it beyond repair (doing something incorrectly, they did not understand). I tried to buy one like it, but it was no longer available. I bought a mid-priced toaster at a department store, and was disappointed. Not great, and did not last. Then I bought a $12 toaster on Amazon, that was better than the mid-priced toaster. I still use it at a remote cabin, but it is too small for artisan bread. I did my research. There were under $100 toasters that despite looking different, were in reality, similar Asian imports. There were a few premium toasters, well over $100, that got mixed reviews. A few models of toasters being sold, caught on fire. Some commercial models seemed better, but tended to be too large. I used a toaster oven for a while, which worked well if you gave it your undivided attention. I almost bought a commercial conveyor type toaster. I don't remember how I found this Dash toaster, but when I found out it used quartz infrared lamps (like my old favorite) I was interested. I researched Dash, and found out the company was started by ambitious Americans. I decided to buy it. I have been happy enough with it, to buy another one for our second house. Works on homemade artisan bread, and it works on commercial soft bread. Bagel mode is perfect. It just takes a little experience to learn where to set the dial for different products. The outside glass is removable for cleaning. The inside glass and metal reflectors cannot be cleaned (as near as I can tell). That has not been a problem for us, but if you put chocolate chip cookies, slices of pizza, or similar messy foods in it, you will have a problem before too long. Setting a reasonable budget for my everyday use toaster, this is the best I have found, and I looked for a long time. Single long slot, with a nice viewing window. Accommodates oversize single slices, or two standard loaf slices. The case has not been hot enough to burn me. The metal on top, surrounding the bread slot, gets hot enough to burn your fingers. Usual crumb tray on the bottom, is removable to empty. It does not look bad, but it won't pass for an ostentatious prestige appliance, if that is important to you.

Best toaster ever!
Ohh, I absolutely love this retro looking toaster. We had a four slice toaster, but it had it's last day and so we were on the search for something more modern, which sounds weird because its retro- but anyways- this is an awesome toaster. You can watch your toast/bagel or what not toast through the clear view window. My daughters love this as well too. Very easy to use- and the bread or bagel comes out perfect. I love being able to see my bread toast in clear view. It is not overly large, what a typical large two toaster would be. The color options were also impressive. However, the best part of this toaster is that it works perfectly and my bread/toast turns out every single time. I'd definitely recommend this brand and will look to them for other products based on my positive experience with this toaster. 5/5

Good Toaster & Nice Looking
Good toaster! We’ve had this for a couple months now. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is the glass comes loose everyday without moving the toaster and then the toaster does not operate. However, the manual is very clear that this can happen and to just push the glass back up. I purchased this toaster because we wanted a toaster with a long slot size for artisan bread. Hasn’t burned toast, accurate toasting, quiet. Once in a while it’s a little overzealous when it pops up. Very nice looking as well. We purchased the DASH clear toaster because we had to replace one we purchased from PlumChef, which only lasted 4-5 weeks… it was horrible.

A good toaster at a fair price
I have never had a toaster that toasted the same on both sides of a slice of bread. All were poor at that. I ordered this Dash toaster because reviews said that it did do both sides the same and fairly evenly too. I can report that this is true. I like the window view so you can watch your toast browning. The bagel button is a nice feature, letting you toast only the cut side of a bagel. That makes a great bagel. Also like the retro look.

Unique and outstanding
My parents bought one of these and on my annual visit with them, I noticed they had this toaster. I absolutely fell in love with it. Not only is it cool to be able to see the level of toasting happening in real time, it’s very functional as well. I sometimes have large pieces of bread that wouldn’t fit in a typical toaster but this one can hold a large slice for when i make sandwiches. It has a very sleek look to it rather than the typical square looking toaster. The browning is perfect and consistent. I’m almost tempted to buy a backup one in case they ever stopped selling these. I’m in my mid 50s and I’ve had a lot of toasters of my time but this one is truly the best.

I must have gotten a "defective" one
I purchased this as a Christmas gift for myself and have used it approximately twice a day since I received it. Once in the morning and once again in the evening. I am the only person in my household so I don't believe I am over using it. Likes: - Stylish (if that counts) - Top rated by "America's Test Kitchen" (why I bought it to begin with) - Window to watch the "show" - Am considering using it to "eject" clay pigeons at the local shooting club! Given the range and height of the English muffins it throws in the air I have no doubt it should be able to launch a similarly sized clay disc to a respectable height and distance! - The "window" provides a nice bit of anticipatory elegance as I wait for my toast to be launched at sufficient velocity as to achieve a low orbit in my apartment. - The "crumb" tray is easy to remove and functions admirably in catching whatever debris is left after the device has launched my breakfast. - The sound of the "launch" itself is a satisfying "thunk" that resonates quite clearly throughout my apartment. I am wondering if I could train the birds to fly past my balcony to catch, in mid flight, each mornings offerings? Assuming of course that they are not molten cinders. Dislikes - Of the "7" different settings of "done-ness" on the dial, mine only has two that actually do anything. "1" = does nothing or "7" = create your own charcoal. While this last setting is handy if I were looking to create briquettes for my barbecue it is less than optimal for toast or English muffins in the morning. Everything setting between these two numbers (2-6) only differentiates between how "raw" the bread is when it is ejected or how close to being complete charcoal it is. - It has, on more than one occasion, managed to launch whatever it was toasting up, and over, the raised countertop located behind itself. It is quite amusing to see a smoking, charcoal puck, soaring through my apartment in the morning while I watch in amusement. Perhaps I could interest Elon Musk or NASA in using this device to eject manned space capsules in case of emergency? Probably not as the extension cord for using it for that purpose would probably weigh too much. - The "window" provides a nice bit of anticipatory elegance as I wait for my toast to be launched at sufficient velocity as to achieve a low orbit in my apartment. All in all it makes an excellent breakfast launching device that is perfectly capable of turning even the most sublime piece of bread into a wholly inedible chunk of charcoal at the turn of a knob and the push of a lever. As far as a toaster though, I think I can do better with something that costs less. On the good side however, I think I am a sure thing to win the "pumpkin chunking" contest this fall with my device!

I like everything about this toaster!
After 20+ yrs, our toaster finally gave up the ghost. I went looking for the same brand, but they don't make toasters anymore. I took quite awhile researching other brands, and then came across this one; different and interesting, with its long shape and see-through window. The reviews were good overall, so I bought it. We use our toaster alot and have been using this one for about a month, now, and just love it! The see-through window is perfect if you toast different types and thicknesses of bread. No flipping up the toast to see if it's done or waiting til you see smoke to know you went too far. It toasts very evenly, much better than our old one. You can easily fit 2 slices of bread or 4 pcs (2 buns, cut in half) of the smaller hamburger buns, side by side, into this toaster, and each piece toasts perfectly evenly. At first I wondered about the long length taking up more counter space, but it really doesn't because it's so much thinner than the traditionally shaped "thick slice" toaster it replaced. It not only performs well, it's also a nice looking toaster (I got black, mostly because it was a few dollars cheaper than the other colors), and people are always very intrigued when they see it. As other reviews have mentioned, it does pop up with considerable force, and sometimes (not very often), the bread will jump right out of the toaster, more so if toasting small, light weight pieces like half slices of small buns. In spite of that, I really like this unit and give it 5 stars. The only thing I CAN'T rate yet is how long it will last. I have my doubts it'll still be pumping out toast in 20-25 yrs like the old one (things never seem to last like their predecessors anymore), but we'll see. In the meantime, this gets all thumbs UP!

A fine but flawed toaster.
I bought this toaster after reading reviews and watching the America's test kitchen video where they recommend it. As a toaster, it works fine. It toasts bread, it's relatively slim, and looks nice on the counter. Some other reviewers complained about uneaven toasting, but my toast was evenly browned every time. The problem with this toaster is that it doesn't do the one thing I was hoping it would do, Toast enough oddly shaped bread to make a sandwich in one pass. I have limited counter space, so I don't want to just get a small toaster oven. My old toaster was a normal 2 slotter from a grocery store. It toasts two pieces of standard square sandwich loaf bread. I don't usually buy this kind of bread, I buy bakery bread, so the problem arises where the slices don't fit. I would have to cut the ends off the bread to get them to toast, which was annoying. When I saw this toaster, I figured it would solve this problem entirely; in America's Test Kitchen, they specifically -say- this toaster will solve this problem. Unfortunately, it just trades the problem of toast not fitting for a different one: It's capacity is still 2 pieces of sandwich loaf. This is an extra wide ONE SLOT toaster. The window in the front is fine, though the point of a toaster is to press the button and not have to wait and watch it like how I need to when I toast bread under the broiler in the oven. The heating elements are 4 quartz bars, this is twice as much as a small toaster oven with modern elements. It doesn't use the old style heating wire that weaves around the toast. That being said, the quartz elements heat remarkably slow. The cheapest toaster oven walmart sells starts glowing red within seconds of turning it on, this will take 10-15 seconds to come up to temp. I suspect they heat up slower because it has 4 of them to power. If they didn't have the window, they could probably get away with 2, and heat the toast faster. Again, the core problem is that this is a single slot toaster, I didn't know that when I bought it. If I want to toast enough odd-shaped bread for a sandwich, instead of cutting the corners to make them fit my old one, I need to put each slice in one at a time. Because of the window and quartz elements, it's also about as deep on the counter as my two slot toaster as well. Instead of trying to put in a window, fancy quartz elements that work around the window, etc. They should have made it a two slot toaster, or made it a little wider so it could accept and toast two slices of odd shaped bread at once. It's fine as a toaster, but it didn't solve my problem, just replaced it with a new one. I'll probably use it for 2-3 years until I get tired of toasting each side of my sandwich individually, and then just cave in and get a small 4 slice toaster oven. It's a shame because they can easily fit two slots on the form factor they currently have, instead they went for style and a window. For the money I can't complain too much, but there's no capacity gain overall in this toaster over any normal 10 dollar one you can get anywhere else.
